The Week 1 late window of the 2026 college football season came from University Stadium in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026 at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.
The Lobos won 38-7 in the first football game ever played between the two programs.
New Mexico led 20-0 at halftime and shut Central Michigan out until the fourth quarter. Luke Moga was efficient rather than spectacular, going 13-of-17 for 116 yards and a touchdown, and the Lobos leaned on volume instead: 205 rushing yards, 28 first downs to Central Michigan’s nine, and 37:29 of possession. James Laubstein scored twice from short range, Scottre Humphrey ran for 64 yards and a touchdown, and Grant Glasgow was 3-of-4 on field goals with a long of 49 for 12 points. Central Michigan never solved the New Mexico front, finishing with 149 total yards — just 30 of them passing — while its two quarterbacks combined to go 7-of-16 with two interceptions. Nasir Williams provided the only Chippewas score, a 23-yard run capping a 10-play, 75-yard drive. The crowd of 24,126 was New Mexico’s largest for an opening night since 2014, in Jason Eck’s second season in Albuquerque. You can stream Central Michigan vs New Mexico recaps on FOX One. New Mexico set the terms immediately, leading 20-0 at halftime and holding the Chippewas to 149 total yards and nine first downs. The two programs are scheduled to meet again in Mount Pleasant in 2029 on the return leg of the agreement.
