The Minutemen won the first two meetings after the series began in 1967, then dropped three straight to the Scarlet Knights, most recently a 48–21 loss on Aug. 30, 2019, in Piscataway. UMass ended that skid Thursday night with a 37–14 win at SHI Stadium, and Joe Harasymiak beat his former boss and mentor, Greg Schiano, on the field where he spent three seasons as Rutgers' defensive coordinator.
