Lincoln Kienholz, an Ohio State transfer making his first career start, hit Lawayne McCoy for a 54-yard touchdown with 4:42 left and then ran in a 7-yard score with 1:28 to go to tie it at 38. Ole Miss took over at its own 25 and moved 40 yards in eight plays — a 15-yard completion to Deuce Alexander, an 18-yarder to Caleb Odom and a 4-yard Makhi Frazier run to the Louisville 31 — before Lucas Carneiro drilled a 48-yard field goal as the clock hit zero. Trinidad Chambliss went 21-of-36 for 336 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a fourth. Alexander was the difference in the third quarter, catching two 62-yard touchdowns on the way to 159 yards on five catches in his first start as a Rebel. Kienholz threw for 307 yards and two scores and ran for 69 more, and Tre Richardson scored twice for Louisville, on a 30-yard run and a 62-yard catch. Ole Miss won despite losing the turnover battle 2-0 and time of possession, edging Louisville 488-469 in total yards. It was Pete Golding’s first season opener as Ole Miss head coach.
