DeJuan Williams did the most damage on the fewest touches, running three times for 116 yards and two touchdowns — the first a 94-yarder that stands as the second-longest run in Maryland history, behind only Steve Atkins’ 98-yard run against Clemson in 1978. Malik Washington went 19-of-31 for 186 yards and a score, Iverson Howard added two rushing touchdowns, and backup Cardell Williams went 4-of-5 for 60 yards with a touchdown while running for 49 more. Maryland finished with 646 total yards and six rushing scores; Hampton had 85 yards, 10 of them on the ground, and threw three interceptions, two to Messiah Delhomme. There was a genuine milestone underneath the scoreline — Maryland was the first Power 4 opponent Hampton has ever played, in Van Malone’s first season as the Pirates’ head coach.
