BYU leads the all-time series 15–12–1 across 28 meetings. The first came in 1936, a 32–6 Arizona win in Tucson, and the two did not meet again for 21 years until a 14–14 tie in 1957 that remains the only draw in the series. The bulk of it was built in the WAC, where BYU and Arizona were founding members in 1962 and played every year through 1977 before Arizona left for the Pac-10.

BYU has controlled the modern portion, winning six straight dating to 2016. Before this one, the most recent was Oct. 11, 2025 in Tucson, where BYU trailed by 10 in the fourth quarter and won 33–27 in double overtime on a 7-yard Bear Bachmeier run. Arizona has not won in the series since a 31–21 Las Vegas Bowl victory on Dec. 20, 2008. BYU took the 2026 meeting 28–17 in Provo, the first between the two as Big 12 opponents.
