Purdue’s Week 1 opener of the 2026 college football season came from Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, IN on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT.
The Boilermakers won 44-19 in the eighth meeting between the in-state programs, and Purdue has still never lost one.
Ryan Browne threw for a career-high 317 yards on 23-of-29 passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions, spreading them to Chauncey Magwood from 6 yards, Tra’Mar Harris from 7 and Asaad Waseem from 18. Waseem, in his Purdue debut, finished with six catches for 107 yards. It was closer than the final suggests for a half, with Purdue ahead only 16-6 at the break, before the Boilermakers outscored the Sycamores 28-13 after it. Don Saunders put the game away 12 seconds into the fourth quarter, stepping in front of a Brady Allen throw and returning it 35 yards for a touchdown and a 44-6 lead in his own Purdue debut. Purdue finished with 523 total yards to Indiana State’s 284 and, more to the point, snapped a 10-game losing streak that had run back into the 2025 season. Purdue took the most recent games 56-0 in 2022 and 49-0 in 2024 before winning 44-19 on Sept. 4, 2026 — Indiana State’s first double-figure point total against the Boilermakers since 2015 and its second-highest in the series, behind the 35 it scored in 2006.
