Bowling Green and Nebraska had never played before Sept. 12, 2026, so the Cornhuskers' 56-7 win at Memorial Stadium opens the all-time series at 1-0.

The Falcons have pulled off this kind of game before. On Sept. 25, 2021 they went to Minneapolis as 31-point underdogs and beat Minnesota 14-10 on the Gophers' homecoming, with Matt McDonald running for two touchdowns and the defense sealing it with interceptions at 2:13 and 17 seconds. That result ended Minnesota's streak of 21 consecutive non-conference wins, the longest in the country at the time, and was the Gophers' first loss to a non-Power 5 opponent since North Dakota State in 2011. Tanner Morgan was held to 5-of-13 for 59 yards and sacked four times.
