Howard and Indiana had never played football before Sept. 12, 2026, so the Hoosiers' 55-0 win at Memorial Stadium opens the all-time series at 1-0. The two schools have met in men's basketball, but this was the first meeting on the football field.

Howard's only win over an FBS opponent came in 2017, against UNLV. Indiana arrived as the defending national champion, and the win extended the longest active winning streak in the FBS to 18 games and its longest active home winning streak to 17. Curt Cignetti remains unbeaten at Memorial Stadium, and his 28-2 record through 30 games is the second best in FBS history behind Fielding Yost's 29-0-1 start at Michigan.
