Michigan and UTEP have never played, so the 2026 game at Michigan Stadium opens the all-time series. What Michigan does have is a record against UTEP's conference: the Wolverines are 12-0 against programs currently in the Mountain West, and 11-1 against Mountain West members at the time the games were played. The single loss came in 2008, to a Utah team coached by Kyle Whittingham, who now coaches Michigan. The most recent meeting with a Mountain West side was a 34-17 win over New Mexico to open the 2025 season.
UTEP has played football since 1914 and is 415-654-30 all time, with a Border Conference title in 1956 and a WAC championship in 2000. The Miners play at the Sun Bowl and joined the Mountain West this year. Scotty Walden is in his second season in El Paso.
