The whole history starts on a holiday. Detroit beat New York 37-20 at Tiger Stadium on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 1972, in the first regular-season meeting between the franchises, and the series has stayed short ever since. Opposite conferences and a rotation that pairs them only occasionally have kept the file thin, and the clubs have never met in the postseason. This is closer to a curiosity than a rivalry. Detroit added to the short file with a 31-24 win at Ford Field on Sept. 27, 2026.
