LSU leads the Magnolia Bowl 64-43-4, and the 2026 game is the 115th meeting since the series opened on Dec. 3, 1894 with a 26-6 Ole Miss win. The two have played every year without interruption since 1945. Ole Miss has vacated one win in the series and LSU has vacated two, which is why record books occasionally disagree by a game. The trophy itself only dates to 2008.

The defining moment came on Halloween night in 1959, when LSU trailed third-ranked Ole Miss 3-0 late and Billy Cannon's punt return won it for the top-ranked Tigers. The 1971 meeting in Jackson, a 24-22 Ole Miss win, was the last major college football game played between two all-white squads; both programs fielded their first Black varsity players the following season. LSU's longest run is eight straight from 1928 through 1937, and both sides have also managed six in a row — LSU from 2002 to 2007, Ole Miss from 1952 to 1957. The widest margin is LSU's 52-3 win in 2011, which was also the 100th meeting. Ole Miss took the most recent, 24-19 at Vaught-Hemingway on Sept. 27, 2025, holding LSU to 254 yards and 2-of-11 on third downs.
