Fresno State leads this series 46-39-3. San Jose State won the first meeting 14-2 on Nov. 19, 1921 and controlled the series for most of the 20th century, leading it continuously from 1949 until 2001. Fresno State pulled level at 32-32-3 with a win in 2002 and took the lead for good in 2003.

What flipped it was a 12-game Fresno State run from 1991 through 2005, the longest streak either side has managed, and inside it the widest margin in the series: a 63-12 Fresno State win on Nov. 20, 1999. The Valley Trophy itself only dates to 2013, introduced the year the two began sharing Mountain West membership, and it is a silver V with a transistor pattern down one side for Silicon Valley and a grape vine down the other for the San Joaquin. As conference opponents across three different leagues, the Bulldogs are 22-8.
