Iowa State leads this series 5-1 across six meetings dating to 1970, which makes Utah one of the few programs with a losing record against the Cyclones over a series that long. All six came well before either school's current conference alignment — Utah joined the Big 12 in 2024, Iowa State has been a member since the league's founding in 1996 — so this is the first meeting between them as conference opponents.

Utah won the 2026 meeting 31-17 on Sept. 26 at Jack Trice Stadium, the first meeting between the two as Big 12 opponents, cutting Iowa State's series lead to 5-2.
