Michigan State led 14-7 at halftime and then scored 21 unanswered in the second half. Alessio Milivojevic went 12-of-20 for 170 yards and two touchdowns, including an 18-yarder to Fredrick Moore, and Cam Edwards ran 21 times for 152 yards and two scores.

Charles Taplin caught a 38-yard touchdown off a Charles Brantley forced fumble to make it 28-7 in the third. The Spartans converted 10 of 15 third downs. Eastern Michigan moved the ball but reached the red zone once all afternoon, and its only score came on a 4-yard Noah Kim run at the end of a 78-yard drive with 1:50 left in the half. Kim, in his seventh college season, spent 2020 to 2023 at Michigan State and finished 16-of-26 for 118 yards against his old team.

Michigan State is 11-0 against Eastern Michigan and has never lost to its in-state neighbor. The series began in 1898, when Michigan Agricultural College won 11-6 in Ypsilanti, and includes three meetings from the years both schools belonged to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Before 2026, the most recent meeting was Sept. 20, 2014, a 73-14 Michigan State win in East Lansing that stands as the third-highest point total in Spartans history and in which Eastern Michigan did not pick up a first down in the opening half. The 2026 game, a 35-7 Michigan State win on Sept. 12, ended a 12-year gap. The closest the Eagles have come in the series remains that first game in 1898.
