The National League Championship Series has decided the National League champion since 1969, when MLB split each league into divisions and added a playoff round ahead of the World Series. It was a best-of-five series through 1984 and has been best-of-seven since 1985. The winner takes home the Warren C. Giles Trophy and moves on to face the American League champion in the World Series.

The 2026 series was the third NLCS meeting between the Dodgers and Brewers and a rematch of 2025, when Los Angeles swept Milwaukee 4-0. The first came in 2018, when the Dodgers won in seven games. This time Milwaukee swept, reaching its first World Series since 1982, and the Dodgers' postseason record against the Brewers now stands at 10-7.
