In 1941, back in Hyannis Port, MA, Joseph P. Kennedy was desperate to find a solution for Rosemary's increasingly erratic behavior. Without consulting his wife, he authorized a lobotomy for Rosemary, a risky brain procedure. The lobotomy was a disaster, leaving Rosemary unable to speak and with severe physical and mental challenges, leading to her being institutionalized for the rest of her life.
