Moro Ojomo wrapped up a shovel pass to John Bates with 1:01 left, and that is the only reason this one did not go to overtime. Watch Commanders vs Eagles highlights on FOX Sports or stream on FOX One. The Week 1 game of the 2026 NFL season came from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026 at 4:25 p.m. ET / 1:25 p.m. PT.
Philadelphia held on 24-22 after Jayden Daniels’ 1-yard touchdown to Antonio Williams had cut it to two, leaving Washington a conversion for the tie.
The Eagles won on three plays rather than on any sustained stretch. Jalen Hurts completed 14 of 25, but three of those throws travelled at least 30 yards, and the possession that decided it came on third and 18 in the fourth quarter: Hurts scrambled 22 yards to keep the drive alive, then found Dallas Goedert on a 43-yard catch and run. Goedert had both of the other two Hurts touchdowns between them. Washington was smothered for two quarters, Daniels 6 of 16 for 43 yards at the half, before back-to-back fourth-quarter drives. Washington and Philadelphia have been playing since 1934 and it is one of the longest continuous rivalries in the NFC East, twice a year almost without interruption for more than nine decades. They have met in the postseason as recently as the January 2025 NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field. Because they share a division, the opener is only the first of the two meetings they will play in 2026.
