The USMNT and Paraguay first met at the inaugural FIFA World Cup™ in 1930, where the United States earned a 3–0 victory behind Bert Patenaude’s historic hat trick - the first hat trick ever scored in World Cup history. The two nations have since met in Copa América competition, international friendlies and most recently in a November 2025 friendly won 2–1 by the United States. Their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener in Los Angeles will mark the second World Cup meeting between the two sides and the beginning of the USA’s home tournament.
