Mary Poehnelt

  • When did you first start getting serious about cooking and why?

I've always enjoyed cooking and creating, but I became serious about cooking when I worked as the head cook of a small cafe in Buffalo.

  • Why did you want to be a contestant on Hell?s Kitchen?

Chef Ramsay is a brilliant and incredible chef. To spend time in HELL?S KITCHEN would be an honor and an incredible opportunity to build my skill set and overall career.

  • What was your favorite experience on Hell?s Kitchen?

As crazy as it sounds, anytime I was in the kitchen getting yelled at. Chef only yells at you because he sees something in you and expects more. If he isn't yelling at you, then he's given up on you.

  • What is the most valuable lesson you learned from Chef Ramsay?

I've really learned excellence and finesse; if you aren't willing to push yourself and walk in excellence then you are in the wrong industry.

  • What is your favorite dish to cook and why?

I absolutely love to make Boeuf Bourguignon in a Korean BBQ style.
