The high-pitched voice of reason in the Griffin house, Lois is the only woman capable of tolerating Peter.

Alex Borstein is best known for her work on several seasons on the hit FOX series "MADtv" and her wildly popular original character, "Ms. Swan."

She was most recently seen on "Shameless" and serves as a consulting producer on the hit series. Borstein starred in "Killers" alongside Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl and "Dinner for Schmucks" with Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. Her additional feature film credits include "Good Night, and Good Luck," "Little Man," "The Lookout" and "Catwoman," as well as "Kicking & Screaming," "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," "Coyote Ugly," "Showtime," "Bad Boy" and "Bad Santa."

Her critically heralded one-woman stand-up show, "Drop Dead Gorgeous (In a Down-to-Earth Bombshell Sort of Way)," is available on DVD.

After graduating from San Francisco State University with a degree in rhetoric, Borstein started performing improv and later joined the ACME Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles. Originally from Chicago, she lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Jackson, and son, Barnaby.
