Dance Dictionary

Country Western

Also known as the Texas two-step, this dance, traditionally performed to country music, is the most popular of the country styles. In its simplest form, the partner dance includes four steps: quick, quick slow, slow. The dancer's goal is to glide across the dance floor. Some holds used for the style include cape, shoulder hold, and side by side. "So You Think You Can Dance" has not tackled much country dancing on the show, but in Season 4, Kherington Payne and Mark Kanemura performed a country western two-step to "Kick Back" by Ty England. The routine, choreographed by Ronnie DeBenedetta and Brandi Jobais, did not fare well for the couple. Kherington was eliminated that week, and Mark was in the bottom four.
