FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills is keeping tabs on an area in the Gulf that has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression this week. She said that lower wind shear in the lower Gulf combined with warm waters allow for development. However, Mills said strong wind shear will shield the Gulf states and Florida, so even if something does develop in the southern Gulf, it will encounter strong wind shear as it travels northeast, which will likely tear it apart. Mills said regardless of tropical development, the system will bring rain to Florida and the southeast. If the system does get a name, it will be Isaias.
