FOX SINGS PRAISES OF “GLEE” WITH FULL-SEASON PICKUP

September 21st, 2009

FOX has ordered a full season of the critically acclaimed comedy GLEE, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company.

“The response we’ve received to GLEE has been remarkable,” said Reilly. “It’s already got the makings of a cultural phenomenon. I’ve seen all 13 episodes, and Ryan Murphy, his team and the talented GLEE cast have knocked our socks off with their incredible work. We’re happy to pick up this gem of a show, and can’t wait to see what they’ll do with the rest of the season.”

“It’s fantastic to be the first show picked up and that this underdog series, like its characters, will get the chance to keep singing,” said series co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy. “There are so many more stories to tell. We’re grateful for the incredible passion shown by everyone involved - the unbelievable fans, the cast, crew, our partners at the network and studio and even music artists and labels.”

In the next episode of GLEE, airing Wednesday, Sept. 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Kurt (Chris Colfer) takes center stage when he tries out for the football team in order to impress his dad. Sandy (guest star Stephen Tobolowsky) and Sue (Jane Lynch) join forces to carry out their plans for disbanding the Glee Club. Meanwhile, Quinn (Dianna Agron) and Finn’s (Cory Monteith) relationship is tested when they receive some life-changing news.

GLEE, the genre-defying new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who - against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach - attempts to save McKinley High’s Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential. The critically acclaimed series stars Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley and Mark Salling. Guest stars this season include Victor Garber, Josh Groban, Kristin Chenoweth and Eve.

During its preview and throughout the summer, more than 25 million people sampled the first episode of GLEE. The Sept. 9 premiere of GLEE was FOX’s highest-rated fall scripted new series premiere in three years among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens. In fact, during its first week this season, over 15 million viewers watched GLEE’s fall premiere episode. Additionally, the show has attracted over 300,000 obsessed fans on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, and after only three episodes, six of the songs featured on GLEE have already made it into iTunes’ Top 100 Downloads.

GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante Di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Full episodes of GLEE are available for viewing at fox.com and hulu.com. For more information on the series, including episodic photos, please visit http://www.foxflash.com/div.php/main/page?aID=1z2z2z268.]

Tweet-peat Update

September 4th, 2009

Thank you to everyone who participated in last night’s FRINGE Tweet- peat special event!  We’ve read through all the fan feedback.  While many people were thrilled with the opportunity to interact with the FRINGE cast and producers, others felt the on-screen graphics made it difficult to follow the broadcast.  We’ve listened and have used these comments and suggestions to help us make a few adjustments to tonight’s GLEE Tweet-peat special.

Don’t forget that Tweet-peats are unique events for repeat episodes only.

Tonight’s GLEE Tweet-peat will air at 9 PM ET/PT.  During this encore airing of the GLEE pilot, both east and west coast broadcasts will feature LIVE tweeting by the cast.

Thank you.

Aniboom!

June 16th, 2009

FOX BROADCASTING COMPANY AND 20TH CENTURY FOX TELEVISION

TEAM UP WITH ANIBOOM TO FIND
THE NEXT CLASSIC PRIMETIME ANIMATED HOLIDAY SPECIAL

Offers Cash Prize and Network Development Deal

Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox Television have partnered with Aniboom, the world’s first virtual animation studio, to launch the FOX-Aniboom Holiday Animation Challenge, an animation contest to find the next great FOX holiday TV special. The contest, which kicks off on May 27, 2009, invites talented, creative up-and-coming animators worldwide to enter their original holiday-inspired animated shorts for the opportunity to win cash prizes and a FOX development deal. Submissions should present an original idea for a holiday special and feature the irreverent, edgy and uniquely FOX animation spirit that has made such shows as THE SIMPSONS, FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD hits for the network.

“FOX has long been the sole primetime animation powerhouse, and we’re searching for a fresh new animated holiday special that could potentially become an instant classic and maybe even a weekly series,” said President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company, Kevin Reilly. “By tapping into Aniboom’s community of undiscovered talent, we hope to find the next original hit holiday concept like THE SIMPSONS’ ‘Treehouse of Horror’ or ‘A Very Special Family Guy Freakin’ Christmas.’”

“Our success in creating blockbuster primetime animated hits is one of the cornerstones of this studio, and we’re always on the lookout for the next great talent in this genre,” remarked Twentieth Century Fox Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden. “We’re excited to partner with Aniboom and FBC on this contest. We can’t wait to see what comes in.”

“Aniboom is the studio for thousands of talented, passionate and undiscovered animators from over 70 countries around the globe, and every one of them reveres the innovation and creativity of FOX’s animated programming,” said Founder and President of Aniboom, Uri Shinar. “With this competition, FOX and Aniboom will introduce viewers to the next great superstars of animation – and quite likely, a brand new vision of what primetime television programming will be like five years from now.”

The FOX-Aniboom Holiday Animation Challenge is open to animators who have reached the age of majority in their state or country of residence. To be eligible to win, entries should be two to four minutes in length and must be holiday-themed – from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas – or any other holiday observed in the U.S. Animators can submit their shorts online by uploading them directly to the Aniboom website at www.aniboom.com/fox. The contest kicks off at 12:01 AM PT on May 27, 2009 and the deadline for submissions is at 11:59PM PT on August 31, 2009. Viewers can watch and comment on the videos as soon as they are posted. A voting period will take place from September 1 through September 30, in which viewers have the opportunity to rate their favorite submissions. FOX and Aniboom will reveal the five contest finalists on or about November 3, and then announce the grand prize winner in mid-November.

Each of the five finalists will receive a prize of $5,000. A panel comprised of FOX executives will select four of these finalists, while one “Viewer’s Choice” finalist will be chosen based upon the audience response on the contest’s website. The grand prize winner will receive the $5,000 plus an additional $10,000 and a FOX development deal, with the potential to air their winning work on FOX, FOX.com, and other FOX-affiliated websites.

Since its inception, Aniboom has successfully executed many short-form animation contests, whose winners have gone on to create animation for large corporations and media outlets. The Aniboom Awards is an annual short-form animation contest that, in past years, has received over 1,000 video submissions. In March 2008, Aniboom teamed with TBD Records to host the Radiohead Animated Music Video Competition, whose winning submission went on to serve as the music video for the band’s hit “Reckoner” from the “In Rainbows” album.

This Girl Can Belt One

September 4th, 2008

If you’ve ever had to battle the throngs of teenagers waiting at the stage door of the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in NYC, then you know just what Spring Awakening mania is.

Well, we just nabbed the original Wendla herself: Lea Michele has been picked as the self-obsessed “star female singer” in Glee.

This pilot from Ryan Murphy has promised to feature up to four musical numbers per episode, so we’ll get to hear her amazingly beautiful voice (she was recently a fantastic Eponine in the Les Miserables concert at the Hollywood Bowl).

Glee also hit up another Broadway veteran to fill the lead role. Matthew Morrison plays “Will,” a thirty-something Spanish teacher at the Ohio high school who has the daunting task of taking over the school’s glee club, which has become a haven for outcasts.
