When I was nine, my mom came to get me from school and told me something bad happened to my Grandma. When we got to the hospital, my mom told me my grandma ran herself over driving her own car.

Here we go! My son insisted that his 5th grade volcano project include his army men at the base. I thought it was weird but he convinced me they were there to get real people out of the way. Fine. But then the neighbor come by and pointed out that those pointing guns might not go over at school. I had him chop their arms off. So yeah...his army men had nubs for arms.

One night some teens broke out a back side window in our van. A few weeks later someone hit it and ran in a parking lot. They broke the tail light. We did not have money to get any of it fixed so my dad covered the tail light in plastic wrap which he had colored red and replaced the side back window with a piece of wood. I was so embarrassed about the car!

My parents had a sense of humor. When my younger sister was born, they told her they had found her under a rock in the desert and they brought her home and she grew into the little girl she was now. When she went to kindergarten the teacher asked where each child had come from. My sister told her what my parents had said. Needless to say, the school requested a meeting.

The first day of kindergarten, the teacher kept calling "Jennette" during role call with the same last name. Finally, I answered but corrected her, saying "Jenny" was my name. After school, I went home and told my mom, appalled that the teacher had called me by the wrong name all day. Her response? "Oh, Jennette is your real name. We just always call you Jenny."

After school, my father would go to the local restaurant/bar to relax. We were 6 & 8. He really wasn't an alcoholic. We played in the parking lot and became pro pinball players. Regulars always bought us soda and snacks because we were so well-mannered. We never got to do our homework and then my parents would be shocked at our report cards. Really?!

Scarred For Life

When I started school, I was so proud of the fact I knew my ABCs and 123s. I was taught them by my dad while hanging out at the neighborhood bar every night. You see, back then you would choose a letter and a number to hear the song you wanted on the juke box.

I frequently missed the bus as a young child so to try to discourage this she decided to drop me off about half a mile from school like five or ten minutes before i needed to be there. She then drove slowly next to me while i ran to school shouting for me to run faster. Lets just say it was akward when people asked why my mother was following me in a car as i ran to school

When I was in 3rd grade, my father wrote me a $12.00 check for lunch. I was very upset with the low amount of money my father gave me, so I changed the amount to $2000 and forgot to put the decimal after the first 0. The lunch lady came for me, my heart was beating, AND my father was a teacher at that school.....and lets just say he never wrote me a check ever again! :0

Real Dumb

When we were little, my uncle would take my cousin and me to school and he would ask us, "Hey, do you guys want some donuts?" We would shout YES! and before you knew it, we would go flying around all over the car because he meant "car donuts" (spin his Camaro 'round and 'round). He did this to us for a few years before we learned our lesson and stopped saying yes!
