Chapter 709

Malcolm falls prey to a scheming teacher after he and Reese are placed in the same class. Mr. Herkabe humiliates Reese in front of everyone. He tells Malcolm that he will continue to do so unless Malcolm fails the class intentionally. This will secure Herkabe as the greatest genius in the history of the school. Malcolm agrees until Mr. Herkabe lets it slip that he never took gym class. Stripped of his title, Herkabe turns up in gym class. Reese enjoys his revenge through dodgeball, repeatedly drilling Herkabe with the ball.

Hal watches Dewey interact with Gina, a schoolmate, and pushes him to date her. When Dewey doesn't act fast enough, Hal takes over and makes all the moves for him. Hal lands himself in police handcuffs, and Dewey gets his lunch date with Gina on his own.

Lois has been using Claire, an older woman across the street, to babysit for Jamie. Lois gets tired of Claire's long-winded rambling and drops continuous hints to get away from her. Frustrated, Lois screams at Claire and slams the door in her face. Days later, Lois learns that Claire has died. She is oddly relieved until she meets Claire's sister, Donna. Although thanking Lois for being so nice to her sister, Donna launches into the same type of rambling Claire was notorious for.
