Hal pampers an aching and exhausted Lois until she is forced to buy orthopedic inserts for her shoes. Not only does she not need Hal anymore, but she also repairs the house's appliances with her newfound energy. Hal plots to destroy the orthopedics. When Lois catches him in the garage, he confesses to his actions. She lets him know that she still does need him.
Reese brings his army buddy Abby home to visit. He soon realizes that Abby wants more than friendship. After Reese confronts her, Abby turns her affections toward an uninterested Lois. Reese finally accepts that he loves Abby and he asks her to marry him. This leads Abby to announce that she is gay. Their friendship is restored to normalcy.
Malcolm refuses to repay Dewey the $10 he owes. He gives him garbage instead. Dewey turns the trash into cash by rescuing and reselling a comic book. Dewey spends all the money, but keeps his self respect -- which is more than can be said for Malcolm.
