Chapter 704

The day before Halloween, Malcolm and Reese discover that a grizzly triple homicide once took place in their house. Hal insists that it is untrue, but Lois confirms that it did happen. Hal becomes increasingly scared to be alone in the house and drives Malcolm crazy by following him everywhere. He even unleashes a nervous tirade on some innocent trick or treaters.

Lois is upset that she has to work and can't spend Halloween night with Jamie. She tells Reese and Dewey to take him trick or treating until she can catch up during her break. The boys go out with Jamie, but stop to egg an old man in his doorway. They run, grabbing the wrong kid and leaving Jamie behind. The old man and his walker give chase, but his efforts yield only a slow walk. The boys see his pace and continue trick or treating, commenting on "Jamie's" great behavior. After several interruptions at work, Lois finally breaks away and takes over the trick or treating with Jamie. She returns to the Lucky Aide to take pictures of her darling son, only to be stopped by the cops for having someone else's child. The real Jamie has since returned home and snuck into the crawlspace with his candy. He scares Hal and Malcolm after bingeing on a red bag of candies, exiting headless and covered with blood-red stains. Hal apologizes aloud for his behavior. Malcolm accepts his apology but Hal confesses that he was talking to the ghosts. Reese and Dewey meet their demise when the old man finally catches up to them, pelting them with eggs while they lay trapped in a mattress.
