Chapter 618

Francis and Piama show up at the house to celebrate Francis’ 21 st
birthday. Hal is reminded of a promise that he made Francis as a child
about a motorcycle trip when he turned 21. Lois finds out and immediately
puts the kibosh on the trip, proclaiming “no motorcycles ever!” Hal
and Francis decide to sneak off anyway. In the process of hiding the motorcycles
in the garage, Francis accidentally drives his through the house. They
immediately flee the scene by taking off for their trip early. As they
camp in the desert, Hal offers up a 21 year-old bottle of scotch to celebrate.
Francis confesses to Hal that he is a recovering alcoholic. Hal is so upset
that Francis didn’t come to him with his problems. Francis grew up
and Hal missed it. Francis admits that he missed him not being there too.
Malcolm, Dewey, and Reese are held captive in their own home by a bully
laying in wait outside to beat one of them up. The only problem is that
they don’t know which one of them he is there for. The boys hole
up in the house until cabin fever overtakes them. Dewey and Reese go outside
and take their beating, but each time the bully tells them to send out
the brother. Malcolm holds on. Finally, Malcolm confronts the bully, only
to find out that he has the wrong house. Meanwhile Lois and Piama are left
alone while Hal and Francis are on their trip. Lois is, of course, very
cold to Piama. Fed up with the attitude, Piama confronts Lois about her
behavior. Lois actually apologizes and the two bond over drinks, cigars
and breaking their things with a hammer.
