How old are you?
19 I turn 20 on June 12th! Woo!
Are you in school? If so, which one and how long? Did you graduate?
I went to Manhattan College and then transferred home to St. Josephs University, I’m studying childhood education
How old were you when you started dancing?
I started dancing when I was 3. I was little bo peep!
Do you have any formal dance training?
Yes I have taken lyrical, tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip hop
If you had to categorize your dance style, what would it be?
I would say lyrical and I really love hip hop.
What other talents/hobbies do you have?
I really love to cook! I also love to go out to dinner, shopping is always fun when I’m not broke, ha ha, I love to write and listen to music.
Who is your favorite professional dancer?
? From watching the show every year and seeing her at conventions, I would really have to say Mia Michaels, she’s brilliant
Does anyone in your family dance professionally?
No but one time my dad actually got down on the floor in front of my whole dance studio and did the worm in a suit and tie. That was pretty funny but I think the only professional thing about that was the suit and the tie, haha, That’s about as experienced as my parents get in the dance world!
Have you performed in musical theater or in public functions as a dancer?
Well since I am a dancer for the New York Knicks I get to dance in front of people all the time! It’s a really awesome job, I get to perform in the most famous arena, Madison square garden in front of thousands.
What would you like to see happen to you as a result of the show?
I really want to inspire people, to show people that you can achieve anything you put your heart and soul into. I think this is an amazing opportunity to show your talent and your personality, to make a name for yourself because of the love and dedication you have for your art.
Where would you like to be in 10 years and what would you like to be doing?
In 10 years I will be only 29 so I will absolutely still be dancing! I couldn’t imagine my life without it but I believe you have to live in the moment so for me to think about 10 years from now is a lot because who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow! Maybe I’ll be a professional judge on So You Thing You Can Dance with Nigel and Mary. =)
What has been your most memorable dance experience?
I have so many memorable dance experiences. Dance has been my life since I was so young so to pick one is pretty difficult. My senior year in high school I went to Starpower nationals in Orlando, Florida and I won Miss Starpower for my lyrical solo. I know it sounds a little juvenile but I never won anything like that before and neither has anyone in my dance studio so it was really exciting. Making it to not only to Vegas but to the top 20 was the most memorable experience of my life, not just a memorable dance experience! I don’t even remember what happened when they told me I made it to the top 20. It was like I immediately went to cloud nine; I couldn’t even believe it, it didn’t feel real.
What have you learned so far in going through the audition process for this show?
The audition process was grueling, humbling, inspirational, unforgettable…I can go on and on and on! I learned a lot about myself as a person and as a dancer. If I learned that much in the small amount of time I was in Vegas I can’t even begin to imagine the things I am about to experience.
What are your favorite dance moments from movies, TV and/or stage?
My favorite dance moments from television I’d have to say were from this show! My favorite dance was the contemporary piece with Lacey and Kameron, they danced to Dancing by Elisa. I literally can watch it over and over again. (Ha ha, I know the dance by heart, shhh!)
Which choreographers would you like to work with?
I want to work with Mia Michaels. In Vegas, I found Mia’s piece to be most challenging. I am so used to being turned out, pulled up, and pointed and her stuff was so technical but in SUCH an abstract way that I struggled. I wish I had more time to really nail her piece so that’s why I am really anxious to get contemporary as a style. I am also really excited to work with a partner I have never done that before. I think it is going to be interesting because when you are the girl you have to totally let the guy lead in many dance styles and when I first learned that aspect of partnering I was like what?! I have to put my dancing in your hands?! So that should be fun and as always, I am up for any challenge!
