The waltz was once known as the forbidden dance because couples were allowed to touch. The ballroom dance comes in many forms, but the two competitive styles are the International standard waltz, which includes quickstep moves, and the American style that allows for partners to dance in open position. Throughout the seasons on "So You Think You Can Dance," the waltz has been performed several times to all different styles of music by artists as diverse as R&B diva Mary J. Blige, country star Kenny Rogers, adult contemporary artist Sarah McLachlan, operatic singer Hayley Westenra, and ethereal New Age performer Enya.
