This spirited number is more commonly known as the Russian or Cossack dance. Characterized by deep squats and aerial splits, the most famous examples can be found in Tchaikovsky's legendary ballet "The Nutcracker" and in Walt Disney's "Fantasia." But it was the Season 4 finale of "So You Think You Can Dance" that brought the Trepak into the 21st century, when Stephen "tWitch" Boss and Joshua Allen performed a modern street battle version of the Russian dance. Judge Nigel Lythgoe summed it up in his critique saying, "I was expecting you'd be good at that because that's street dancing, Russian street dancing." Joshua went on to win the season and "tWitch" was named first runner-up.
