Rock 'n' Roll is a contemporary dance style that can be performed by couples or groups of four-to-eight people. The acrobatic routines often include jumps, flips, throws, and lifts. One of rock 'n' roll's signature dance moves occurs when the male dancer throws his partner in the air from a sitting position. She then lands on his hands, and he tosses her upward. A highly athletic dance style, rock 'n' roll has only been performed once on "So You Think You Can Dance." In Season 1, Ashlé Dawson and Blake McGrath danced to Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog," which was choreographed by Travis Payne.
