As with other forms of modern jazz, pop-jazz is influenced by many other styles of dance, including lyrical, acro, contemporary, and tap. There have been many pop-jazz performances on "So You Think You Can Dance," but one stands out as one of the series' most unusual performances of any genre. During a Season 5 rehearsal, choreographer Brian Friedman explained the routine they'd be doing to "Creator" by Santigold to his dancers, Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover. He described it as a "unique jazz dance" in which Caitlin was "an alien who blew up Earth and [was] coming down to find the one last man left on Earth to procreate with."
