Lyrical Jazz

Originally known as modern jazz, lyrical jazz is an expressive form of contemporary dance that uses rhythmic, sharp, and angular movements to convey emotion. Unlike the other forms of lyrical dance, lyrical jazz is not meant to interpret the words of the song. As a result, critics often dismiss the style because it does not necessarily have a set of defined techniques that make up the discipline. "So You Think You Can Dance" lyrical jazz performances include Season 4's Jessica King and William Wingfield's routine to "Alone" by Heart and Season 5's Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover's dance to "Show Me Heaven" by Maria McKee.
