Lyrical Hip-Hop

On Season 4 of "So You Think You Can Dance," choreographer and judge Adam Shankman coined the term lyrical hip-hop, following a performance by Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura that was created by husband-and-wife team Napoleon and Tabitha D'umo. Nappytabs' new style is a more fluid and less freestyle form of hip-hop, which is most often performed to low-key R&B or more mellow forms of rap music. The Hightower-Kanemura number, set to "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis, was nominated for a 2009 Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography, but the statue went to "So You Think You Can Dance's" Tyce Diorio instead.
