Lindy Hop

The Lindy Hop is a spirited dance made popular between the late '20s and early '40s. Named for Charles Lindbergh's famous 1927 trans-Atlantic flight from New York to Paris, the dance was drawn from the headline: "Lindy Hops the Atlantic." The dance combines elements from many others styles, including swing dancing, tap, and jazz, but the signature move is appropriately called the "air step," in which the male dancer throws his partner in the air, and she lands in time to the beat of the music. In Season 6, Ryan Di Lello and Ellenore Scott delivered a powerhouse performance of the dance, set to "I've Got to Be a Rug Cutter" by The Boilermaker Jazz Band and choreographed by Lindy Hop expert Carla Heiney.
