Kalinka

This traditional Russian folk dance evolved from a folklore song about a snowball tree. The quick, light-hearted tune was often played at weddings and celebrations and the dance developed from it. Eventually it evolved into choreographed performances retaining the signature poses and choreography like crossed arms, twirls, and leg kicks. The Kalinka was introduced to "So You Think You Can Dance" audiences in Season 5 when Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb, decked out in the traditional Russian folk costumes, performed the dance to the original music in a routine choreographed by Youri Nelzine and Lilia Babenko.
