Foxtrot

This flowing dance is a staple of both the International standard and American smooth ballroom competition dances. It's commonly believed that vaudeville star Harry Fox created the style in 1914, although others also have laid claim. It is a graceful, smooth dance with a subtle rise-and-fall action, and it's oftentimes reminiscent of the dance routines of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. The foxtrot has been performed on "So You Think You Can Dance" several times each season, but one of the most notable appearances was on Season 6. Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin choreographed a routine to "Vagabond Shoes." Krumper Russell Ferguson's partner, Noelle, was out with an injured knee, and he was forced to dance with his choreographer. Russell persevered through the dance and the season, taking home the top prize.
