This popular dance style originated in New York City nightclubs during the 1970s. With roots in samba, merengue, tango, cha-cha, and mambo, it was driven by hard-hitting, continuously thumping DJ beats. It took the form of partner dancing, solo dancing, and the ever-popular line dancing and included the bump, the disco cha-cha, and the Hustle. The '80s "Disco Sucks" era ushered in a new, less flashy form of the style popularized in such films as "Fame" and "Flashdance." "So You Think You Can Dance" has tackled disco on many occasions. Possibly one of the most exciting times was the first week of Season 2, when '70s and '80s disco went head-to-head. First Jaymz Tuaileva and Jessica Fernandez danced a '70s version to "Disco Inferno." Then Ben Susak and Ashlee Nino danced an '80s-style routine. Both were choreographed by resident disco diva, Doriana Sanchez.
