This style, which mixes elements of ballet, modern, and postmodern dance, is generally less concentrated on structured movement and classical techniques; instead more emphasis is put on philosophy and an emotional connection to the music. Creators of the style include Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and Merce Cunningham. Many of the dancers on "So You Think You Can Dance" come from a contemporary background, including three winners: Nick Lazzarini (Season 1), Sabra Johnson (Season 3), and Jeanine Mason (Season 5). And two contemporary routines on the show won Emmy Awards. In 2007 Mia Michaels won for "Calling You," danced by Travis Wall and Heidi Groskreutz, and in 2009 Tyce Diorio took home a statue for "Adam and Eve/Silence" danced by William Wingfield and Jessica King.
