Most people remember learning this dance in gym class: "One. Two. Cha-cha-cha." The Latin ballroom style originated in Cuba and evolved out of the mambo. Originally known as the triple mambo or the cha-cha-cha, it came about when mambo dancers added a triple hip movement to slower dances. The constant bending and straightening of the knees creates the signature cha-cha hip action. Memorable "So You Think You Can Dance" cha-chas include Season 3's Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin's routine "Let's Get Loud," danced by Pasha Kovalev and Jessi Peralta, as well as Jean-Marc Genereux and France Mousseau's "Cha-Cha Heels," performed by Melanie and Jakob Karr during Season 6.
