American Jive

Derived from swing dancing, this style is also known as six-beat jive or rock jive and is typically danced to '50s-style rock 'n' roll music. It's generally the social form of the dance adapted from the International ballroom version and is usually danced to faster music in a more freestyle manner. The only time American jive was ever performed on the "So You Think You Can Dance" stage occurred in Season 2. Ben Susak and Ashlee Nino danced a routine to Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire," choreographed by Mary Murphy.
