Top 10 - 07 / 15 / 09

Kupono danced a Paso Doble with Randi, a solo, and an African dance. Although Kupono was light on his feet during the Paso Doble, the judges recognized his passion.

Top 12 - 07 / 08 / 09

Kupono got to do a contemporary dance and a Broadway number with Kayla. The judges were impressed with his ability to take on a character and bring intensity to his performance.

Top 14 - 07 / 01 / 09

Kupono danced a Sonya Tayeh contemporary routine with Kayla. Mia Michaels appreciated how Kupono has applied every note the judges have given him, and also said there is something majestic and calm about him.

Top 16 - 06 / 17 / 09

Kupono paired up with Kayla to dance a Viennese Waltz. Although Kupono was worried about lifts during rehearsal, guest judge Toni Basil said that Kupono partnered Kayla well.

Top 18 - 06 / 17 / 09

Kupono attempted to find his inner Shane Sparks while dancing hip hop with Ashley. Although the judges thought it was just okay, Nigel said he loves these two as dancers.

Top 20 - 06 / 10 / 09

Kupono performed a Wade Robson jazz routine with his partner, Ashley. Nigel appreciated Kupono's commitment to the character and intentional nervous energy.

Las Vegas - 6 / 04 / 09

Contemporary dancer Kupono Aweau created a to-do list that included making the Top 20. During Vegas week, Kupono found a strength that the judges were happy to see, so Kupono was able to check off the biggest thing on his list.

No
Have you performed in musical theater or in public functions as a dancer?
Yes, 24-VII Danceforce Studio does a spring /winter concert each year as well as public performances throughout the island.
What would you like to see happen to you as a result of the show?
I would like to bring praise and glory to 24-VII Danceforce Studio. It's trained such inspiring individuals through the art of dancing and performing. I just want to get the acknowledgement it deserves.
Where would you like to be in 10 years and what would you like to be doing?
Anywhere!!! As long as I'm happy, surrounded by good people and loving what I'm doing.
What has been your most memorable dance experience?
Vegas week for SYTYCD. Every moment of it was amaaaaaaazing!!!! I can't wait for the show.

Aweau graduated from the Kamehameha Schools and has been dancing since he was 16 years old. He loves his home state of Hawaii, and is an avid collector of home furnishings.
