Caitlin danced the Foxtrot and performed a lyrical jazz routine with Jason. Mary Murphy called Caitlin's kicks "beautiful and elegant."

Top 14 - 07 / 01 / 09

Caitlin portrayed an alien in a pop jazz routine with Jason. Nigel said that there was 100% commitment from the dancers in this routine.

Top 16 - 06 / 24 / 09

Caitlin performed a powerful Paso Doble routine with her partner, Jason. Nigel said Caitlin is so good and has perfect lines and a beautiful flow of movement.

Top 18 - 06 / 17 / 09

Caitlin hip hopped to a Shane Sparks routine with her partner, Jason. Nigel thought Shane did a good job of catering the style of hip hop to the Caitlin and Jason's styles of dance.

Top 20 - 06 / 10 / 09

Caitlin performed a high energy Bollywood routine with her new partner, Jason. Mary was blown away by Caitlin's strength during her handstand, and Nigel was captivated by her inhalation at the start of the routine.

Las Vegas - 6 / 04 / 09

Nigel Lythgoe told Caitlin Kinney that she's a survivor and is part of Season 5's Top 20 finalists. Caitlin was shocked and emotional.

How old were you when you started dancing?
I was 13 when I started acrobatic dance and 15 when I started ballet.

Yes
If you had to categorize your dance style, what would it be?
Contemp Ballet
What other talent/hobbies do you have?
Tumbling, anything on the water (boating, sailing, etc.)
Who is your favorite professional dancer?
Hard question! Either Sylvie Guillem or Patricia McBride.
Does anyone in your family dance professionally?
No
Have you performed in musical theater or in public functions as a dancer?
Yes, many. I was a ballerina in "Step Up" and danced in Spain and Italy with the American Dance Team, and performed all over with North Carolina Dance Theatre.
What would you like to see happen to you as a result of the show?
To get to do what I love as a full time job, grow as a dancer and a person, and be expored to as much dance as possible!!!
Where would you like to be in 10 years and what would you like to be doing?
Ten years from now, I would like to be in a place where I can use my gifts to inspire others, and hopefully pass on my love of dance through teaching and educating.
What has been your most memorable dance experience?
My first time onstage with North Carolina Dance Theatre! I was an understudy for one of the company members who got sick 2 days before opening night and Jean Pierre chose me to go in for her! It was an amazing experience and so nerve wracking.
What have you learned so far in going through the audition process for this show?
Being passionate, having heart, and letting that show through is what makes this such an amazing art form. It's not just training and technique. That will only take you so far.
What are your favorite dance moments from movies, TV and/or stage?
"Serenade" by George Balanchine, Na Floresta, and "Calling You" (Travis and Heidi from So You Think You Can Dance)

Kinney graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts in 2005. She danced at North Carolina Dance Theatre as an apprentice for two years and is an experienced gymnast.
