Booth rolls out of bed as Brennan knocks at his door. She reminds him that Sweets needs to sign his post-Afghanistan fitness for duty report. Booth has been putting it off. Perhaps it's because his body can no longer hide the fact that it has taken a lot of abuse. She can't help but notice that his bones are cracking. Age is catching up to him.
Booth and Brennan enter Sweets' Office to find him sans clothing with Daisy. Brennan chastises Daisy for not being at work while Booth asks Sweets to sign his form. Really? Now?
At the Lab, Daisy tries to smooth things over with Brennan. She and Sweets are not dating. It was simply accidental intercourse. Angela and Cam supervise as employees bring in pieces of the Amalia Rose, a slave ship found off the coast of Maryland.
On the Forensic Platform, the Squints begin the grisly task of identifying the bodies of the slaves on board the Amalia Rose. Cam finds pink slime molded to a skull. What is it? Hodgins takes a closer look. He calls for all other bones with pink slime. They are all from the same skeleton and Brennan notices something amiss.
At the FBI, Brennan shows Booth photos of the skeleton. This man was hooked through the mouth like a fish... and he died less than one month ago.
At the Lab, Daisy works on identifying the remains from the slave ship. She can't work on the current murder case because Hodgins is attempting to remove the pink slime from the bones. She can show Brennan the X-rays. Brennan deduces that the victim was at most 20 years old. Damage to his skeleton suggests child abuse.
Booth drives as he explains to Brennan that he got a match to their victim on the FBI's Facial Recognition Software: Mike Casper. He has a wife, dog and cushy job. Brennan disagrees. According to the bones, the victim is no more than 20. He does not have a family. Booth cites the picture. It matches Angela's reconstruction. Brennan does not believe she is wrong but Booth won't admit a possible misstep either.
Red-headed Claire Casper opens the door to Apartment 23G. Booth and Brennan break the news: they have her husband's remains. Odd. Claire Casper calls her husband to the door. Mike Casper appears and he looks nothing like Angela's rendering. Brennan tries not to gloat.
At the FBI, Booth sits with Mike and Claire Casper. He explains that the victim stole Mike's identity and racked up a lot of credit card debt. Mike is upset but he didn't kill the guy. Sweets plays a call with the credit card company in which Mike threatens to kill the person who stole his identity. Booth knows that Mike owns a boat. Things are not looking good. Mike wants a lawyer.
Daisy tries to hurry Hodgins along. Dr. Brennan really needs the bones! Hodgins doesn't want to be rushed. He has finally determined that the pink slime is a type of benthic worm. Cam is upset that the benthic worm has sucked the bone marrow out of the skeleton. They don't have any DNA to make an identification.
At the Diner, Booth feels the case has stalled. They don't even know the victim's identity. Brennan tells Booth about the child abuse. Booth has an idea: abused children think about running away. The victim may be in the Missing Children's Database.
Brennan and Angela ascertain what the victim would have looked like when he was younger and they run the new image through the Database. They immediately get a hit: Liam Molony.
Booth and Sweets watch footage of Liam Molony. He was a foster child featured on television in need of a home. However, he never got adopted. Instead, he turned to a life of crime with another foster child: Hunter Lang. They are tracking him down now.
At the Lab, Daisy continues to help with the slave ship victims. Angela has an idea and asks to borrow all the skulls from the ship. Cam joins them on the Platform and is disconcerted to see that one set of remains is labeled Hany Beaufort. Hany was her great-grandmother's name. Hodgins arrives, having identified the pink slime. It is called the Bone Eating Snot Flower and he has figured out how to remove it.
Daisy finds Sweets at the FBI. She wants Sweets to talk to Brennan. It's an emergency. Sweets doesn't think Brennan cared that they had sex. She isn't a prude. And as long as they don't have sex at the office again, everything should be fine. Daisy agrees... and it leads to a passionate makeout session.
Booth, Brennan and Sweets look for Hunter Lang at the Marina. He works on a boat called the Dandeana. They approach the boat and find that a Cougar Cruise is about to set sail. Hunter Lang is one of the bartenders. Booth, Brennan and Sweets come aboard.
On the ship, the women eye Sweets. He is definitely their type: a young boy toy. Booth spies Hunter Lang at the bar when Brennan meets an attractive boy toy. When he refers to Booth as old, Booth has had enough. He grabs Sweets and Brennan. They have to work!
Booth and Sweets question Hunter Lang. He says that he and Liam were friends, even though Liam once testified against him. Liam was smart. He had the cougars wrapped around his finger. They were giving him money and gifts, not just sex. Hunter last saw Liam on Labor Day. Booth should talk to Nadia, the party planner. When Booth leaves to find her, he is stopped by one of the cougars. She prefers a real man like Booth to one of the boy toys.
At the Lab, Hodgins pours piranhas into a tank with the skeleton. Piranhas will eat the Bone Eating Snot Flower. Hodgins pulls out a clean bone and hands it to Daisy. She notices abrasions along the bone that look as though they've been caused by a cheese grater.
Back on the Cougar Cruise, Brennan is having a great time. Booth approaches. They have to find Nadia. On their way, they notice a hook on the deck. It could be the murder weapon. Booth finds Nadia, getting hot and heavy with a young boy toy. Brennan sees maggots in the room. There was rotting flesh in here. Liam could have been stored in this storage locker until they were far enough out to sea to dump the body.
Booth and Sweets question Nadia in the Interrogation Room. Nadia liked Liam. He was good for business. Nadia thinks they should be talking to Captain Kelly. Only he has the key to the storage locker where Booth found the maggots.
At the Lab, Daisy has confirmed that the hook from the boat is the murder weapon. Hodgins is busy trying to figure out what the trace evidence from the bones could be. It is sticky... a type of waterproof marine glue but what? Cam wants him to confirm that the maggots ate Liam Molony.
Booth and Brennan now face Captain Kelly. He denies killing Liam. Brennan gets a message from Hodgins. The maggots ate cheese... not Liam Molony. Kelly explains that he also does gourmet food cruises. On his last cruise, they had a special Italian cheese and he swiped one. Brennan understands. This type of cheese is filled with live insect larvae. Kelly thinks he saw Liam on deck with a woman about a month ago. Kelly was drunk at the time so he has some difficulty remembering.
Booth, Brennan and Sweets pour another drink for Captain Kelly. If they want him to remember what happened when he was drunk, they have to get him drunk. Booth begins his questioning. It takes him a minute but Captain Kelly remembers a woman with red hair. Booth and Brennan immediately think of Claire Casper.
Claire Casper denies any wrongdoing. So she went on a party cruise? It doesn't prove anything. She admits that she hooked up with Liam...which led to Liam coming over when her husband went to work. Booth surmises that Liam stole her husband's personal documents when he was over for sex. It doesn't matter what Booth thinks. He has no proof.
Cam looks over the manifests for the Amalia Rose. She is trying hard not to let the situation get to her. Angela comes in to tell her that all the remains have been identified and are being moved to the exhibit. They are all set for the Press Conference tomorrow. Hodgins arrives with a new piece of the puzzle. What he thought was waterproof marine glue is actually barnacle secretion. Time for a reenactment.
Hodgins plays the part of Liam Molony while Daisy is Claire Casper. They struggle and Claire throws Liam overboard. Liam tries to climb back on board, scraping himself on the barnacles. Claire grabs the boat hook and hooks Liam, killing him. There may be evidence on the barnacles. Hodgins sent someone to check. King of the Lab!
At the FBI, Claire is distraught that they have proof to tie her to her crime. The Squints found DNA in the barnacles: it belonged to Liam Molony and Claire Casper. Claire says it was all an accident. She confronted Liam about stealing her husband's identity. They fought and Claire cut herself on a glass. This enraged her further and she shoved Liam overboard. Claire grabbed the boat hook to help Liam. She was going to pull him out of the water... until he called her "a desperate old hag." She snapped and ended his life.
At the Diner, Sweets tells Daisy he doesn't like casual sex. They have to have something in common in order to keep spending time together. Indian food? No. Travel. Not so much. Hiking? Dogs? Apparently, they have nothing in common. Daisy remembers that they both watched Saved by the Bell when Sweets had the flu. They could watch it again. It's a date.
At the Jeffersonian, Cam presents the names and faces of the victims of the Amalia Rose to the Press. Angela has created a portrait for each of the victims. Their faces light up as Cam reads their names from the manifest. She almost can't continue when she comes to "Hany Beaufort" but Cam regains her composure. The Squints are proud of her and proud of what they have done for the victims of the Amalia Rose.
