born to.

As we bid goodbye to Brian Austin Green’s Derek Reese this past Friday, we’re left with some big questions for this week’s finale, Born to Run. What is Weaver doing? Does Sarah actually have cancer? Who is behind John Henry’s “brother” and Kaliba? Is Cameron’s glitch fully resolved or does she remain a threat to John Connor? And is John truly destined to be alone forever?

  1. I’m really excited for Friday! Gosh, I’m just praying really hard that this is only the season finale and not the series!

I don’t think Cameron’s glitch is fully resolved, so on some level she is still a threat, but not a huge one. She’d do anything to save him and make sure he is safe, because she loves him =D

Is John truly destined to be alone forever? Mmm… Somewhat. I like the thought of Cameron always being by his side though ^_^ Even if they could never really have a future since she is a machine, she is by his side in the future, and in the present… Even with her leaving/betraying him (please just leaving, they are finally starting to repair things between them!), they can’t stay apart for long.

  2. I have to say that I am disappointed to see Brian Austin Green go. He could have easily become one of the strongest characters in the series. He was definitely a favorite of mine.

I agree with Callie, I hope this is not the end of the series. This is a great show.

  3. Here’s a possibility(and one I hadn’t fostered until this very moment).

What if - John DIES. Weaver assumes John Connor’s role as the savior of humanity.

I guess that would signify the show’s end though. Or would it?

  4. I cant wait until Friday.I have to say im kinda scared.

  5. yeah me too. After all the deaths we’ve had, no one is safe! I expect this episode to be very entertaining, but also, very sad…

  6. I said it before on the previous thread, and I’ll repeat it here. A good Skynet created by friendly(ier) machines (Weaver) makes sense of the data.

Skynet sent machines to kill Savannah, the child psychologist (maybe), and Ellison. All people Weaver had easy access to. All people who were helping John Henry develop morality. Why? Weaver isn’t part of Skynet.

Weaver has only killed to protect John Henry. Furthermore, you could interpret that rampage as trying to take down “the Brother AI.”

Furthermore, it accounts for the Last Voyage of the USS Jimmy Carter stuff. That T-1000 communicating with John Connor about working with them. It also account for the stuff Weaver said in the elevator about John Henry being important for Savannah’s survival.

If this is correct, kudos to the writers for putting clues in along the way. A surprise shouldn’t overturn all the previous data if done well.

  7. I can’t believe the day is almost here. Time flies so fast. =/
Season 2 has been a wild ride. Loved just about every minute of it. It’s shows like this that make me want to focus more on my entertainment career.

    my Captcha was Pryor Dancer

  8. It would also explain future John’s different demeanor. Cold and calculated.

    RCN says: its nephew

    Uncle Bob’s?

  9. “Weaver has only killed to protect John Henry. Furthermore, you could interpret that rampage as trying to take down “the Brother AI.”

    Agreed.

    captcha: “strikes reason” … indeed

  10. @Wolfie: It will be mind blowing… JH said that the human brain is flawed because there is no way to download it. What if Cameron know how to “download” a human brain and then download John’s brain before he die? Nahhh, too jameron… too crazy… :)

    Here is my guesses:

    What is Weaver doing?
She is doing with JH what Sarah is doing with John: preparing JH to fight Skynet.

    Does Sarah actually have cancer?
No, she had lost some weight, that’s all. Running from killer robots will do that to you. :)

Who is behind John Henry’s “brother” and Kaliba?
Fisher was the one who bring back Skynet code and setup Kaliba. Some way, he managed to get old Cyberdyne code and improved it. He was caught and killed by crazy Jessie before he completed is work (using the backdoor he opened to implant Skynet in the military computers).

Is Cameron’s glitch fully resolved or does she remain a threat to John Connor?
I don’t think she is a threat. Her glitch made her self-aware. She can now make the choice to kill or not to kill. She is disoriented, that’s all.

And is John truly destined to be alone forever?
He can’t get attached to humans because they can’t be rebuild. People die around him. So it is better for him to be around machines… which lead us to season 3:

Terminator: The John and Cameron Chronicles :D

  11. My sense is that Weaver is trying to create a SkyNet that will take over without nuking humanity.

Not sure if that qualifies as ‘good’, though. (Except for the ‘not getting nuked’ part.)

And, just because it bears repeating:

This show NEEDS a 3rd season!

  12. I hope nobody inferred that I meant Weaver is the one who kills John. I meant that subsequent to an untimely death(say, illogically trying to free your mother from jail in an armed conflict), Weaver ‘does the right thing’.

  13. I’m so anxious I can’t even stand it.

  14. I don’t want this season to endddddd
I’ll have nothing to look forward to on Fridays anymore

  15. I think this is what John Connor is secretly thinking about:

Stop JD for a little while and be “Yesterday’s Hero” with Cameron walking down the street, and no Sarah in sight.

    John Paul Young: “Yesterday’s Hero”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siqrnVnTSUY&fmt=18

You know, people walking on by, saying to John:

“Haven’t I seen your face before
Weren’t you the boy who used to live next door
Weren’t you on television every night?
    Haven’t I seen you, ’round?”

    :D

  16. Cameron leaving, DO NOT WANT.

Anyways I can’t wait for this! The Finale should be awesome! Season 3 is a must

  17. Anyone that has read my rants over the past several months knows I have asked TSCC to be what it FINALLY is now: a sci fi action adventure.

In doing so, we see the DIFFERENCE in just how good this show can be WHEN it embraces those roots.

I stand justified for all the fans who enjoyed the slower eps (hey, I enjoyed them too); for now you SEE what i knew TSCC could be all along!

There’s no “holding back” when you have to “go for it.” TSCC is now gong for it, and we are enjoying this waaaaay much more than before. Now, this isn’t a daytime soap or a melodrama that should be on the Lifetime Channel. Now, this is full on, edge on your seat thrill ride no apologies taking no prisoners in your face butt kicking ACTION.

TSCC is now on a par with The Shield and The Sopranos on the put your hands over the kids eys scale cause somebody is about to get dead. This is as it should be within the Terminator scope of things: this is TERMINATOR after all, and that doesn’t just mean turning off the light switch - it means observing the VERY dangerous threat that the deadliest brand to ever threathen humankind presents: death. Anytime, anyplace, to anyone: and NO ONE is safe.

All that is missing now, is the element that Skynet is trying to - and is going to - take ALL of us out: 3 million dead on Jday (just a few years away) is a prospect that every viewer such root for the Conners to overcome…as if their LIVES depended upon it!

  18. Who’s behind the Kaliba attacks on the Connors? Is it Weaver? What’s Weaver’s ultimate mission? And, nope, I don’t trust Cameron and her glitch farther than I can throw her! I think if John’s destined to be alone, then that’s one of the saddest and most effective ways of showing how this show has touched me - showing humans like John, Sarah and Derek struggling to keep their humanity but ultimately loosing it piece by piece in the battle against Skynet - a painful sacrifice to make. And please, writers, don’t leave us hanging with us thinking that Sarah has cancer! (Thanks for the mini heart attack you’re giving this Sarah fan ;)

Can’t wait until Friday - worse than that wait will be waiting to see if there’s a third season or not. Argh!

  19. if fox cancels this show it will be the last show I ever watch on the network.

  20. I am worried about this show. Last week was really good, but is it too late?

  21. born to, or born too? Wonder if there is a clue in there. Maybe Cam explaining to JC about Alison. Or god forbid if they take Cam from us, in her last moments it would be great if it was co-terminus with Alison’s actual birth, with a well done fade out. But don’t do it. I’m still getting over Old Yeller!!!!!

  22. Something’s up with Sarah. Remember when she threw up on the side of the road and Cameron said she “must be pregnant”? A laugh line, to be sure. But when she went to see the doctor about the lump, she said that she had been a bit nauseous, but that was it. Cameron makes the comment that Sarah’s been losing weight. I don’t know what she has, but there are too many random comments to have her be a healthy lady.
Re: Weaver, I tend toward the “good” faction, too….although, if there is anybody who isn’t on board with her or who loses their usefulness, she does demonstrate a nasty tendency to eliminate them. And we still don’t know how she took over Savannah’s mom’s form. We just know that the husband died in a plane crash. lots to look forward to–and roughly 42 minutes of solid action can’t possibly address everything! Bring on season 3!

  23. Good piece, Ray.

  24. @Ray,
Good read, the link you sent. One line freaked me out though.

“Airlock Alpha report that they’ve learned Fox is looking to renew Dollhouse and replace TSCC with House on Friday nights.”

That would be rubbing salt into the wound if dollhouse gets renewed and TSCC doesn’t. I gave dollhouse all the chances I could too.

  25. Remember: Cameron has told John that in the future, he has lots of friends. But then in “Dungeons and Dragons”, when Derek wanted to see Future John, he was told that no one sees JC, that John likes to be alone. Hmmmm……

  26. We shouldn’t have to be bidding goodbye to Derek! He shouldn’t have died!!

  27. I’ll bet FOX does realize the potential gold mine and wants the show to do well.

I don’t agree with the people who said FOX moved it to Fridays to kill it. It was almost like an extended chance. They probably hoped it would do well in a sci-fi block paired with Dollhouse and attract all the nerds on Friday nights. Lol. I say that in a good way, if you can believe that. If there’s even a good way to say that.

If the show gets another season, I honestly believe they’re going to change the night again. It won’t be on Fridays next season.

  28. Boy, that would rub salt in the wound if Dollhouse gets renewed and SCC doesn’t, especially considering that Dollhouse’s ratings have been about the same as SCCs, and SCC is a more established show at this point.

Gary, regarding your last post, if SCC is renewed, I don’t care what night it’s on, Fridays or not, just as long as it’s renewed in the first place!

  29. I think Dollhouse sucks. I’ve watched it twice and it doesn’t even compare to TSCC. It would be a travesty to save Dollhouse and can TSCC. And, Eliza Dushku doesn’t hold a candle to Summer Glau in talent or beauty. Just my opinion.

  30. Cameron’s glitch is necessary to her development as a new type of cybernetic organism. At her core is her original Skynet programing that allows no deviation from the prime directive to kill John Connor and any other humans. Overlaying this programing is the John Henry programing she aquired (how this happened is still to be explained) that holds that JC (and perhaps many other humans) need not die. She is the child of these two AIs. As we saw in S&D a major glitch brought on by trauma can put the two programs into open conflict to control Cameron. Other glitches (for example AFP) puts Cameron into a no man’s land where she isn’t controlled by either progam, but is free to go where her developing personality takes her.

Cameron’s quest and her ultimate test is to face the distructive imperatives of the Skynet progaming and reject them, not because that is what her JH programing is telling her, but because that is what her entire near-human (perhaps even human) cybernetic personality is telling her is the right decision even if has the lowest logic score.

  31. Snake you are so right.

  32. @Annie,

You better care. Season 3 would still be on shaky legs on Friday. They must place it in a prime slot. Not Mondays, not Fridays.

And remember, Dollhouse is Fox, TSCC is WB. Fox will be looking to keep their own baby first. WB and Halcyon will have to really want to deal with Fox, or be willing to yoink it and place it on a WB owned network.

And I do not want Cameron or John to get it in the Present. Sarah, maybe, since she seems to be written as such a liability to both. It sucks, but she doesn’t seem to be learning anything or progressing where at least Cameron has shown to be correct more than not.

It still chaps my hide how all three main characters have been treated, for the most part, this season. I think Jim would have something to say, if he was still focused on Terminator, especially about Sarah and John.

In the previous blog I pointed out how Sarah could do so much and have her death say so much with such power and grace, and tie it all neatly into the speech she gave at the end of Terminator 2.

The last stanza of the official story says this:

“The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it for the first time with a sense of hope. Because of a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too.”

This time the tables are flipped. It’s Sarah who learns the value of life, a Terminator’s life; Cameron’s life. Sarah, knowing her own life will be over soon, decides that this time the machine gets to live, and sacrifices herself to make sure it happens.

Because if a human, a metal-hating human at that, can learn that certain machines are equal in value to a human, and can learn to value all life…

    Maybe we can too.

  33. @Snake: E.D. is gourgelicious. As far as talent though…

@Gary: I was one of the loudest saying FOX tried to justify the killing of their ugly duckling; T:SCC. I still stand by that assumption. Friday’s are a DEATH sentence for shows aimed at a 20-30 something demographic.

They should’ve kept it at Monday or moved it to Wednesday after American Idolotry if they truly wanted the show to ‘thrive’.

    RCN says: Total Michener

    The Fires of Spring?
    Sayonara?
    The Source?
    The Covenant?
    Miracle in Seville?
    Return to Paradise?

  34. @Dan

    Kumbaya Dan, Kumbaya.

    RCN says: International Flatiron
    House of pancakes? Huh?

  35. Thanks Ray for the link. Really good article. I wish that Fox exec’s see the light and figure that they are sitting on a gold mine!

  36. @Wolfie,

    Going deeper…

T2’s ending had it where the big, bad Terminator evolves and values. The metal man gets a heart, which signifies that if a machine can “be all it can be” then that, in turn, it gives us hope for mankind.

Using Sarah in the same way, on TSCC, it shows if a human like her can evolve and value, and gain her own heart by means of saving Cameron (and as a side benefit John as well) to live and fight another day or even have a potential future without having to be a Terminator any longer, just a metal-girl who has the whole wide world to soak up and explore, then it gives hope for metal-kind.

Cameron is changed by Sarah’s love for her, as Arnold was changed by John’s love for him.

We all know John loves Cameron, and Cameron loves John. But to gain Sarah’s love too.

    Now, that’s something.

What does it say? To Sarah’s eyes, anyway, Cameron = John = Cameron.

And just maybe, we can see it too.

  37. Wolfie, if they wanted to kill the show, couldn’t they have simply not ordered the back nine? Why contract the back nine with Warner Bros and then try to kill it in ratings?

That’s the part that makes no sense to me.

Maybe that does make good sense from a certain perspective, I just don’t know what it is.

  38. Gary,

It doesn’t make sense to me either. I just know that putting certain shows on Friday nights in primetime has been a death-knell to many a television show.

  39. My question is why not renew if the DVR numbers are high? It’s one of the highest DVR’d shows on TV.

Why have a DirecTV (also a News Corp. entity) ad that specifically encourages the viewers to time-shift by signing up for DirecTV and a standard or HD DVR box, on TSCC of all shows?

The DVR numbers always seem to stay strong. They probably get a lot of hits on Hulu and FoxOnDemand too.

Friday Nights are when the demo is out and about and recording their favorite shows to watch later on.

As Kea pointed out. When you’re skipping through the commercials on your DVR recording you tend to pay attention to what’s on the screen more than if you get up to use the restroom or get a soda refill during the commercial break on live TV. I tend to do that too, and I hate commercials! LOL!

Fox and the other network suits in general make no sense. They’re on some wacky sh-t, that’s for damn sure! :D

  40. The Airlock Alpha article was by Michael Hineman, who was wrong before about TSCC being cancelled.

Don’t listen to anything he writes about TSCC!

  41. Excellent article Ray. Let’s hope Fox listens.

  42. The Airlock Alpha report, the way it reads, House is replacing TSCC on Friday. Maybe
their source only got half the story, It could simply mean fox is moving the show to a different day or time and house is replacing it.

  43. I love Dollhouse, and to be honest, compared to season 2 of Terminator it seems more interesting. I say this only when taking into account the boring Sarah arc in the first half of this season. Terminator when its on top of its game, I like more than Dollhouse, so I would choose Terminator over it givin the chance.

But I want both of these shows to survive. I cant say I’d be happy about moving house to Fridays, but I’ll get used to it, and House has enough dedcated fans to keep the raings up.
Ive been thinking they should do this for a long time. put shows that people will watch no matter what on fridays like house and american idol in the friday slot, because it wont matter anyway, they’ll do just fine, maybe with a slight dip, but it’ll still do fine.

Meanwhile placing Terminator and Dollhouse in other slots could be great for them.

  44. The Airlock Alpha article said that House replaced TSCC on Mondays (it already happened).

The rest of the article is bs speculation by a guy with a (proven!) bad/unconnected
    “source”.

  45. I’m sure that Brian was extremly understanding about being killed off the show, but I am not. I am a huge fan of Brian Austin Green and watch every show he is on. I came to love Terminator because he joined the cast and it has become my favorite show. It truly is the best show on t.v. And he is the best part. Killing him off the show was a huge mistake and I can honestly say I will no longer watch the show. All the other characters are great, but Derek Reese really brought it all together and took it to another level. He is an amazing actor and I loved the uncle relationship between him and John. I am sooooo sad to see this happen. Big mistake.

  46. Hey! Maybe in Season three, John can re-live the day Derek dies, sort of like a Terminator Groundhog Day!

NOT. Let Derek R.I.P. Yes it sucks, but the alternative is afar worse. It has…complications.

  47. John and Cameron are on the lam (no, no not like The Colbert Report’s segment called “Monkey on the Lamb!”) and sitting around a make-shift fire off in the wilderness somewhere in California.

John is poking the fire, absentmindedly, with a stick, sending sparks shooting off into the clear night sky.

John: Have you ever thought about what you’d be doing if Judgment Day never happened? You know, something you’d really like to do other than [smiling] shooting guns and blowing stuff up.

Cameron [looking down; and surprisingly, says]: Sometimes. Have you?

    John: Every damn day.

    Cameron: What would you do?

John: It’s all kinda vague, actually. When I was 10 or 11, I thought maybe something in computer software would be cool… when I wasn’t making life hellish for Todd and Janelle or knocking off ATM’s, that is. Now… I think I’ve seen enough freaky computer stuff for one life time, don’t you think?

    Cameron: Not nearly enough.

John [continuing on]: Maybe a scuba instructor in the Caribbean…?

    Cameron: I don’t see it.

John [sitting up straighter]: Okay then, what would our illustrious Ms. Phillips do with herself?

Cameron: A chef on “The Food Network.” Their ratings are down; they need new blood.

    John: What? You’re kidding, right?

Cameron: Emeril doesn’t use enough vanilla to kick it up a notch, and Rachel Ray… her pancakes are hopeless.

John [incredulously]: You… on a cable TV show?

Cameron [looking at John]: There are ways.

John: Less violent ways, I hope.

Cameron [glancing up towards the stars, and looking away from John; introspectively]: Or perhaps a zookeeper.

John: Forget I brought it up.

I give up! I just give up! Hadley, you fiend! I can’t take your mind teases any longer!!!

  49. Born to run? Well with Sarah Connor being the new most wanted I think there will be plenty of running to go around. I love Elisha Dusku, she did a great job as Faith on BtVS and Angel, and I agree that she is gorgeoulicious.

But I tried watching Dollhouse and found it just too much for me to swallow. T:SCC though is much more my flavor. Fox realizes now that the Friday night experiment was a failure but it should also realize that even though the live ratings were low all the other people that watch it at other times will watch it when they can. Move it to another timeslot and pair it with a show like Bones for example. There was a big push by the fans earlier in the season when Mondya night wasn’t working out.

People watch this show it’s finding the best time to air it is the tricky thing.

    I love you Summer!

  50. We’ll sure miss you, Brian.

  51. I DVR, to busy Fri nites, moving 2 Fri Murder Death Kill. Dollhouse watched 1/2 then said no more. Killing off Derek worst mistake. I will watch finale, however next season………….. I won’t program the show to save if needed. Why can’t you writers listen to fans for once and get it right…..you should pay attention we decide what the numbers are each week not you.

  52. Now that I think about it, it may be “Born to Talk Chipmunk.”

Sarah [seeing an agitated chipmunk sitting on a stump out in the woods, it's trying to say something to her]: What is it, little fellow? You wanna bread crumb? Sorry, I’m all out.

Cameron: That’s not what he said.

Sarah: And how do you know that?

    Cameron: I speak “chipmunk.”

    Sarah: Oooookay.

Cameron [to the chipmunk]: Squeak, squeak, squeaker, squeak?

The chipmunk hops up and down and runs around in circles, and then stands up at attention, grabs his heart, mock swoons, and then jumps back up and eagerly stares at Sarah.

Sarah: So, Sherlock, what did he say?

Cameron: You wouldn’t want me to repeat it. [glaring at the chipmunk] You need to find yourself a mate within your own species, buddy!

    —–

    :D

  53. Etienne don’t forget it has already been talked about downloading a human brain. The Japanese businessmen talk about it with Cameron. I don’t remember the episode title only that it was long and it was the ep where the documentary filmed TD spinning SG around. Yeah I suck at titles.

Terminator: The John and Cameron Chronicles I like the sound of it!! I was calling it Terminator the Cameron Connor Chronicles but yours has a nice ring to it. :)

Czarfore that is why I love the character of Cameron so much. Anything is possible with her.

TSCC is such great show. If you had told me last year I would be hooked on anything terminator I might have given you a funny look. Not anymore. I am hooked on this show. Its the only show I watch and what I love besides the character of Cameron and the Jameron potential is the fact that this show makes you think. I turn off the TV I want to talk about the show. I can’t wait to get online and see what people are saying or pointing out things I missed.
I want to put money towards this show be it T-shirts, action figures, posters, books. (Hint, Hint) That’s how much I love this show.

That was a good article. Thanks Ray!!! As for House I only watched season 4 and have stopped watching season 5. Too many ships and off feeling eps. Ah well. I will always have season 4 of House!

LOL Dan Re: “Born to Talk Chipmunk.” LOL!!!

    Thanks Dan. :)

We better get a season 3.

  54. I’m pretty stoked about the ep tonight! I can’t wait to see how it turns out and to get some more answers to all the questions. Yes, there still are so many! I have faith that we will be happy with this ep and that we will ALSO get a 3rd season! Come on season 3!

I want to see John Henry lead a cyber attack against his brother (skynet) and have some success. To hurt skynet and show it that it is not the strongest. This will all be good I am sure!

Yeah - I don’t think that Sarah is really healthy. One way or another this life style will take its toll on your body. I’m not sure that she has cancer but something is going on. I can’t wait for tonight!
