sarah connor does springsteen.

It’s no secret that our boss, Sarah Connor showrunner Josh Friedman, has a thing for the boss, Bruce Springsteen. Clearly he’s proved that this season.

In fact, our second season premiere was entitled Samson and Delilah, a spiritual once performed by Springsteen in the Seeger Sessions back in 2006. Obviously, Shirley Manson did her own rendition (with the help of our glorious composer, Bear McCreary) in that episode. But have you seen Springsteen’s take on it?

Springsteen also performed another folk tune in those same Seeger Sessions called John Henry. As you learned many episodes ago, “John Henry” was the American folk hero famous for racing against a steam powered hammer and winning — but then dying. Check out Springsteen performing John Henry.

This week we introduce you to the all-new episode Adam Raised a Cain, again harkening back to a Springsteen tune (this time, an original!). Here’s him breaking out Adam Raised a Cain in Washington in 1999.

Last but not least, we’ve already told you that our season finale is Born to Run, obviously named after one of the boss’ most famous tunes! This one’s for you, Dan Hitchman.

  1. Damn. I was hoping to see Lena singing in the shower! ;^D

  2. Got anything by Roy Orbison?

  3. Cool, got a show planned for Mrs. McGrath?

  4. Kudos to Shirley and Bear’s rendition of Samson and Delilah, I like it much better than
Bruce’s. They really did a great job with it, took me forever to get it out of my head,
whistling it day and night when it first came out. Not knocking Bruce at all.

  5. @dan,
Looks like they belated April fooled ya! I can play everything but Born to Run. Unless it’s just my end.

  6. Dan, where are the lyrics?

  7. No, I can’t either, Robert. “Embedding Disabled”. He could jump to YouTube of course.

How about that, Dan? Dedicated to you at the TSCC blog!

  8. Dude give us info on season 3, who to hell cares about the songs at this point ? Sorry for off topic.

  9. I love the Boss!

  10. @senaca

For Orbison fans and Cameron fanatics

  11. How can you NOT love The Boss? Hell, I’m 19, but I love oldies!
Gotta love the orginial Samson & Delilah, and Born To Run. Classics!

  12. I love Born to Run! In fact, I love all the songs that are ever played on TSCC. But no offense to the man himself, but I like Manson’s version of Samson and Delilah so much better. I got it on my playlist (insert plug here for playlist.com. Awesome site), and sing along all the time. Great song!

  13. ok. so i’m going to post my ONE post for the thread.
and beware because it is tinged with smartassness.
    nay full of smartassness.

    —————–
so you know what is entertaining to me?
well, not as entertaining as TSCC,
    nor anywhere close,
    but entertaining nonetheless.

….the people on blogs and sites that think they can and should tell these cats how and what to write about for the show.
**by ‘cats’ i mean JF and the writers and crew**

i just re-watched “Samson and Delilah”. inspired by the Springsteen video, which took me to the Shirley Manson redo.

    are you freaking kidding me??
Shirley Manson singing while Cam malfunctions?
    while JC kills someone.
and ultimaitely he cuts his freaking hair??

looking back now. so much makes so much sense. and the whole time things were being clouded by naysayers and gripers, the road had been paved so elegantly.

    dood.
dont excercise in conjecture. dont play “i’m a writer wannabe”.
these cats are so far down the road it is funny.
    just enjoy the ride…..

(sorry thecolours. that is way more than a parargaph).

  14. Spudster,
Thanks. That was Bruce Springsteen and James Burton with Orbison. Great listening!

  15. Boxer, are you suggesting that John cutting his hair meant he lost strength afterwords? because that’s where Samson drew his strength from. I guess I just don’t see the correlation much.

I guess another way to see it is Samson made a sacrificed himself for the good of man, but think that was after his hair grew back. I cant remember, its been a long time since Ive heard the story.

  16. Well Dan you’re finally famous. Congrats.

  17. As Goofy would say, as he’s looking down at his shuffling feet, abashedly: “Garshk!”

My very own Springsteen video! Thank you, Hadley! :D

I’m “The Boss’’s” Number Two fan, right after Josh, of course! LOL! Well, maybe Number Three, since Jon Stewart seems to be pretty rabid about him. I’ll step aside and let him be Number Two.

For more Springsteen (and who can ever get enough of The Boss, even if he’s a bit player, am I right?)…

Check out “High Fidelity” (a John Cusack vehicle… and yet Jack Black is the dude and steals the movie) and “Roy Orbison’s Black And White Nights” (the last live on film performance before Mr. Pretty Woman’s untimely death).

“B&WN’s” is on Blu-ray (Kea, I know, I know! LOL!) and so is Springsteen’s Live in Dublin concert:

(Roy Orbison & Friends with 24 bit DTS-MA lossless, 5.1 audio)

    http://www.amazon.com/Bruce-Springsteen-Sessions-Band-Blu-ray/dp/B000P1KTW8

Check ‘em out, Josh and Co., and all the rowdy TSCC fans! Go Blu and you’ll never go back! ;)

Oh, and Josh… please kick the Warner Brother’s Home Video head’s keister until he relents to placing a 24 bit Dolby TrueHD lossless 5.1 track on the Season 2 Blu-ray!!

Thank you! And thanks again, Hadley! Super cool.

  18. Dan will get a heart attack of excitement when he sees this blog post.
Well Dan, you got noticed! Congratulations!! :)

  19. Scy800,

Dude, I already did! My post just above yours is awaiting moderation. It should appear shortly, I hope, as there’s nothing bad in it. :D

Rock ’til the wee hours of the morning for it is now Friday in my neck of the woods.

Here’s an encore of Bruce Springsteen and his classic “Human Touch” (to Cameron and John, and anyone out there in the real world needing a little kindness and a loving touch).

  20. You don’t have to unlock the other message of mine, Hadley… I know what I did wrong.

Check ‘em out, Josh and Co., and all the rowdy TSCC fans looking for some high def. A/V goodness! Go Blu and you’ll never go back! ;)

Anybody an audiophile around these parts? Don’t fret too much about SA-CD and DVD-Audio fading away. Blu-ray is here to pick up the pieces. They are working feverishly on interactive music discs with full studio albums in ultra-high resolution audio; some stereo, some in full surround sound at up to 7.1 channels.

The first all-encompassing career-spanning set should be from Neil Young. He’s going with 24 bit resolution and 192 kHz sampling from his analog multi-track masters. Neil did a promo not too long ago with Sun Microsystems (the Java boys) to debut this amazing Blu-ray audio set.

Oh, and Josh… please kick the Warner Brother’s Home Video head’s keister until he relents to placing a 24 bit Dolby TrueHD lossless 5.1 track on the Season 2 Blu-ray!! Thank you!

And thanks again, Hadley! Super cool of you. If I can ever do a solid for you, please let me know.

  21. Dude Dan you got a shout out on the official writers blog, How cool is that!!?

Props to you my friend, things just wouldn’t be the same without all your lyrics!

  22. Hitchman, you’re a local celebrity! Congrats.

  23. Thanks M.J.!

I’ll try not to get too big of a bloated head out of all this… I promise! :D LOL!

Again, flipping back to The Boss…

This may not be one of his most famous songs, but the beat is great and if Cameron truly is “Born to Run” at the end of the season finale, then this song seems to compliment that song perfectly as John searches for her… in my humble opinion. Again, if this song fits in some way… it’s pretty darn cool, and haunting.

    Bruce Springsteen’s “Missing” (alternate take)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSs1GQjHPVo

(Snake, don’t kick me, but here are the lyrics:)

Woke up this mornin’, was a chill in the air
Went into the kitchen, my cigarettes were lyin’ there
Jacket hung on the chair where I left it last night
Everything was in place, everything seemed all right
    But you were missing
    Missing…

    Missing…

Last night I dreamed the sky went black
You were driftin’ down, couldn’t get back
Lost, in trouble, so far from home
I reached for you, my arms were like stone
    Woke and you were missing
    Missing…

    Missing…

    Searched for something to explain
In the whispering rain, and the trembling leaves
Tell me, baby, where did you go?
You were here just a moment ago

There’s nights I still hear your footsteps fall
I can hear your voice movin’ down the hall
    Driftin’ through the bedroom
    I lie awake, but I don’t move

    Missing you…

    Ohhh!

  24. http://digg.com/television/Terminator_Adam_Raised_a_Cain_Trailer

    DIGG THIS…. IT’S OUR CAMPAIGN FOR TODAY…

  25. @bbb,

    I did done dugg it.

  26. Congrats Dan. You kept doing your thing and never wavered in spite of a lot of criticism. I agree with your views concerning the show and you stuck with it.

    Respect!

Samson and Delilah, the episode was the best tv can possibly offer and the song performed by the T-1001 is perminantly amongs my favorites on my Iphone.

One thing the show has done perfect is to incorporate music in the show. You never hear any tunes outside of the soundtrack themes. So when actual songs appear they have triple impact.

Other shows seem to want to have the catchy song at the moment but this show doesn’t do that and props to that.

  27. kudos to you Dan.
you stuck by your guns. and now you have whoever this Springsteen guy is, getting props on TSCC blog.
    :)

  28. Tony,
    The digg is done!!

  29. Edit button: Opps bbb sorry!

  30. Totally agree with the group… Shirley & Bear’s S&D is much better than the Boss’.

  31. Slightly off-topic… or is it?

Jon Stewart, last night on The Daily Show, interviewed author Tom Zoellner about his book called “Uranium.”

    What is wrong with us?

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=222788&title=tom-zoellner

  32. @Dan
I think everyone will forgive you for posting lyrics in this thread…
    This is your moment! ;)

  33. To be honest, I always thought the posting of lyrics and other off topic stuff might get the blog shut down from user abuse.

Hadley doesn’t seem to mind, so that’s certainly good enough for me.

But let’s not get TOO crazy now Dan. lol

I just skip over the lyrics, and proceed to the next post. I already had most of the lyrics memorized anyway from radio play over the years. But I see some people do get pretty irritated.

This will forever be known as the “Boss”/Dan Hitchman thread at TSCC. You should print it out and hang it on your wall! Fun stuff.

  34. Hey! I also like Hendrix, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Elton John (early years), Eric Clapton, J.J. Cale, Alison Krauss, Little Walter, Keb’ Mo’, John Scofield, Winford Marsalis, Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King, Fats Domino…

    Let’s begin, shall we…

    ——

    Just kidding! ;)

  35. Lol congratz Dan, you deserve it. You’re probably the most avid forum user and its great that you received some recognition. I always enjoy your funny/inteligent/interesting comments. Keep on posting!
    -Charlie.
