if i had my way…

Friday’s all-new episode is entitled To the Lighthouse, borrowed from the amazing novel by Virginia Woolf. Are you familiar with it?

Here’s what Wikipedia has to say:
“A landmark novel of high modernism, the text, centering on the Ramsay family and their visits to the Isle of Skye in Scotland between 1910 and 1920, skillfully manipulates temporality and psychological exploration. To the Lighthouse follows and extends the tradition of modernist novelists like Marcel Proust and James Joyce, where the plot is secondary to philosophical introspection, and the prose can be winding and hard to follow. The novel includes little dialogue and almost no action; most of it is written as thoughts and observations. The novel recalls the power of childhood emotions and highlights the impermanence of adult relationships.”

And here’s what I have to say about our To the Lighthouse:
“A landmark episode nearing the end of season two, centering on the Connor family and their journey away from their old house. While we always explore psychological ramifications (we like layers), the plot of this episode is not necessarily secondary to philosophical introspection (this one’s got both), and the prose is not winding nor hard to follow (so get everyone to watch it!). This episode includes both dialogue and action and (as always in this series) recalls the power of childhood emotions and highlights the impermanence of adult relationships.”

To the Lighthouse was written by Natalie Chaidez (Some Must Watch…, Earthlings Welcome Here, Queen’s Gambit, etc) and directed by Guy Ferland. It airs this Friday at 8PM/7PMc on FOX.

  1. FIRST! :D:P

  2. Yay! I love Natalie episodes. This one looks awesome, it really does.

  3. Read it a long time ago in college. Didn’t particularly care for it, not enough scary robots, gun fights and chase scenes. It did take place on the Isle of Skye though.

  4. I’m excited!

  5. Is Guy Ferland or is parents from Quebec (Canada) or France? He has a French name, I’m just wondering.

    Thanks Hadley for the insight.

  6. Is Cameron in this episode?

  7. that sounds great… but lets not get too artsey.

  8. Taylor/Houstonschic

Isle of Skye….is this where we’ll get to hear John Henry sing, “Donald, Where’s Your Trousers?” Yippeeeee!

  9. Why is this entry called “If I had my way”? That’s a line from the song played during the beginnig of ‘Samson And Delilah’, where Cameron goes bad. I sure hope that doesn’t happen again in this episode!!

However, maybe it’s referring to the new (or old) house, because the song continues “… I’d burn this whole building down”

Guess we’ll have to wait till Friday. I hate waiting…

  10. @notty22: From the preview, it looks like Cameron will be in this episode… http://www.fox.com/fod/play.php?sh=tscc&ep=1236991268995

  11. Yes, but will it have enough Cameron? Last week was lacking again. But then again there’s never enough Cameron for my liking.

  12. i. cannot. wait!!! though i am not happy about some of the snippets of sarah there were in the previews for this week..i’m not sure i like where this is going..
but wow, the JH storyline is powerful stuff, and savannah weaver is a fantastic little actress. keep up the good work!

  13. I thought Sarah was wiping all the fingerprints off the cabinet knobs so they wouldn’t have to burn this one down.

  14. Layers, always layers…isn’t that the truth! :)

  15. 1) Natalie Chaidez is freakin’ awesome.

    2) SONS OF ANARCHY & THE SHEILD, eh? Ferland looks like a good match with TSCC.

    3) Woolf really isn’t that hard to follow and she virtually never writes about snot. That puts her above Joyce in my opinion any day - once he’s finished with Skynet, can John Connor send a robot back through time to terminate James Joyce before he writes Ulysses? Plsthxkbye!

  16. Maybe Cameron should get her own spinoff series so all you Fangirls can mentally mass tour bait over the sexy toaster. Maybe they can call it ‘Keeping up with Cameron’ ?

  17. Sooo…

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf in this episode?

Does Elizabeth Taylor and/or George Segal make a guest appearance?

Are plates and glasses thrown around?

Any drunken arguments?? Cameron, I told you to lay off the sauce!!!

    :D

  18. Yay, another Natalie ep! :) Can’t wait til Friday!

Starkiller, I understand your pain, albeit from a different perspective. There’s never enough Sarah for me in eps and last week was lacking for me as well! ;) Fantastic ep tho!

Layers, I like layers! I’m gonna freak is Sarah’s cancer is truly back!

  19. Wolfie..

Eeegads! A little graphic, aren’t we??

  20. Whoops, edit - I meant that the cancer story of Sarah is back, not the cancer itself. So far, she hasn’t gotten it in this Terminator timeline!

  21. @Annie,

She says she found a lump…and whether this is her fate. I understand the story element now that we know JF has battled the c-word, but it smacks of T3 all over again.

Bring her back to give her cancer again? Sounds almost too cruel for words.

  22. Natalie’s eps are awesome!

The episode synopsis says that Sarah fears for her life and stashes John in a safe house. Are the cops catching up with her? Did the cops from The Good Wound finally figure out that their Jane Doe is really Sarah Connor?

  23. I hope Weaver and John Henry play, “Get the Guests”.

  24. Kacy’s boyfriend, Trveor, is a cop. Was his only contribution to the storyline finding Riley’s body? I always thought he would figure out Sarah and John lived next door.

  25. Sorry Dan,

Sometimes this board reads like a ‘love in’. Yes, even I am a S.G. fan, but sometimes I feel like I need to shower when I’m done reading some of the posts. I guess I’m more ‘cerebrally attracted’ to this show than I am emotionally or (EGADS!) sexually.

  26. Pilot - they move not once, but two times.
End of season one/beginning of season two - the house burns down.
End of season two/beginning of season three - the ditch this house and move to a lighthouse.

I think I’m starting to see a pattern here.

    I love you Summer!

  27. I just love this. Keep rocking

  28. I’m looking so forward to this one, but I won’t be able to watch it until Sunday.
    waaaaaaah :(

  29. John Connor is finally coming of age. Good stuff…

  30. John Connor is finally coming of age…great stuff…

  31. If I Had My Way…

Buckethead The Knight would get a medal for his creative and wacky rants about saving the show. LOL! :D

That guy must have been to one too many Renaissance Festivals, and gotten beamed with a cushioned jousting lance, but he means well.

  32. I’ve long suspected there were English majors writing for this show. This episode confirms it.

What’s interesting is the link between memory (past events modulated by the passing of time) and personhood. Because they shape our identities, do our memories make us ‘human’ in some profound sense?

BLADE RUNNER is another scifi story that explores this theme–Rachel the cyborg thinks she is human because she has been given ‘memories’ and pictures, etc. that provide evidence for them. The human being on a mission to terminate her decides in the end to accept her personhood.

Wonder where this is going given Cameron’s resurfacing memories about Alison, (and maybe Derek’s memories from his once-future-but-remembered experiences with Cameron)?

  33. @spear401: It’s funny you mentioned Travor the cop, Tracy’s boyfriend. The actor that plays Trevor also play a cop in Castle (with Nathan Fillion of Firefly/Serenity) but he works for NYPD not LAPD. In Castle is lastname is “Esposito” (don’t remember if is first name is Trevor).

May be there is a T1000 impersonating Trevor in New-York. Sarah should send Derek over there to make sure… ;)

  34. Isle of Skye? So we get JH’s Song this week, right? Right?
I sure hope so… that stuff sent chills down my spine….

  35. [...] Well, here’s what Hadley, at the Official TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES Blog had to say about tonight’s episode: [...]
