josh and summer talk good.

Josh and Summer participated in a conference call yesterday to talk about our big spring premiere and the back nine episodes. Here’s a little compilation of highlights from the conversation…

SciFi Wire reports that Summer was “shocked” by the season finale script. Meanwhile, Io9 reports back that Josh would love to introduce the character of the engineer that built the bank vault time machine at some point — “but not in the second season.” Check out both articles for some good scoop.

  1. Logan beat Hadley to the punch!

They’re gonna have to be faster than that to keep up with their devoted fans…We snoop and find it all first, well unless it’s exclusive (HINT HINT!!)

  2. From reading both takes on the conference call, it appears that Cameron is going to demonstrate her “love” for John and Sarah in a manner that is unambiguous. My intuition tells me that Cameron will be destroyed in a heroic battle with Weaver. She will be no match for Weaver, like Uncle Bob was no match for the T-1000.

It looks like Josh is going to wrap up all the major storylines in the back 9, just in case TSCC isn’t renewed. Thank you Josh. While we all hope that Fox continues to believe in TSCC, we all understand the brutal marketplace in which you are competing. Thank you for thinking of us fans.

But we won’t give up without a fight. I’m watching on Friday nights, and will do everything possible to spread the word.

I’ll also hope that Kevin Reilly and the other decision-makers will have the vision to give TSCC a third season given that Terminator Salvation will reawaken dormant interest in the franchise. The rumor is that McG and Christian Bale have really pulled it off. Hopefully we can ride that wave to a third season and beyond.

I know this post seems pessimistic, but it’s not. I’m hopeful, but realistic.

  3. They talk good, they talk real good, but do we know what they’re saying…? :)

    Hmmm…

    Aye, there’s the rub!

Maybe we should all take a tip from Stephen Colbert and try Prescott Pharmaceuticals’ new candy-coated suppository called CyberTruthinessExLaxodrine.

One kick to the colon from this Skynet approved baby and you’re “flushed” with excitement from all the double-talk and PR spin that are fit to put in a conference call, an interview, or some viral thing called a.. a (what is that thingamabob again?). Oh, I know! A Dekker Tape!

It’s a cure-all from what ails you: speaking the plain truth.

Remember what they say about Prescott Pharmaceuticals:

That’s why you have TWO kidneys.

    We’ll See You In Health.

    ;)

  4. I agree with Logan. I was talking to a friend last night and we both think Cam gonna die saving John’s life…it would be the ultimate demonstration of how much she cares about him.

I don’t plan on rolling over and playing dead either , I’ve already started a T:SCC pledge campaign on my blog and most of my friends are sick and tired of hearing how much i want this show to live on for a third season…but being the person i am, I don’t know how well a third season would work without everybody’s favorite Terminator in the mix.

If we do get a third season and Cam does die she will be SORELY MISSED!!
Thanks in advance Josh for all the great eps that are coming are way. If you gotta go down, make memorable!! I think the back nine will just that!

  5. Why would she say this “The word finale is always hard for me. It’s hard to walk away from the show, hopefully for just a little while, because I’m very optimistic about us getting a third season.” if she was going to die?

There will be no third season if Summer Glau isn’t a part of it. If she does die.

  6. If we get a third season, I’m pretty confident that Josh has created the scene in a way to allow for Cameron’s resurrection.

The foreseeable problem is that Summer Glau is quickly becoming an in-demand actress. If Terminator isn’t renewed quickly enough, I can easily see Joss Whedon picking her up for Dollhouse, or some other smart producer picking her up immediately to form an entire project around her. She has a built in fanbase who is going to follow her from project to project. I count myself among those fans.

That said, I get the feeling that Fox really believes in the show. I am confident that the back nine are going to kick butt.

  7. I’m more anxious to find out if they kill Cam off than i am excited about the show at the moment. I think it’ll be a big mistake and i for one wont be watching any more. It seems about 50/50 of the fans saying she will live or die but I’d say 90% want her to live.

Anyway the back 9 sound excellent and at least Cam will be in till the very last episode of season 2. The fact she has been doing a lot of action scenes makes me happy, i really enjoy the action and there hasn’t been enough of it so far.

  8. They already blew Cameron up the last time so I think somebody is going to die then her. Why kill off Cam, the character we all watch the show for, and don’t lie people. Cameron is the show.

  9. Logan,

I see what you’re saying but wont she have a contract?, i don’t think she can just leave as easy as that. I think Doll house is in no better shape than TSCC really so she would only move to this is TSCC was canned.

I will gladly watch her in Dollshouse or any other project she chooses as shes a great actress. If she leaves TSCC i will stop watching, I’m sure it’ll still be an OK show but Summer is what makes it great show for me and the reason i bought the boxset.

  10. More than likely she’s under contract until the end of the season, and contracts simply expire unless new ones are adopted.

While Dollhouse is in the same boat as TSCC, Joss Whedon has more leverage with Fox due to the Firefly debacle. In Josh Friedman’s favor however, is the fact that he’s done everything Fox has asked him to do with the show. Monday nights just turned out to be surprisingly brutal.

Hopefully, the economics still make sense for the show on Friday nights, and the combination of Dollhouse and TSCC will bring out the browncoats in huge numbers.

  11. io9 said:

Friedman says he’d like to be able to revisit the “Alison from Palmdale” character at some point — the future human whose appearance, and apparently memories, Cameron borrowed from.

    I say:

    Flippin sweet!

  12. How could you do Cam resurrection without it coming off looking weird? I guess I should leave that up to Josh IF he kills her off and IF we get a third season.

I’m with Logan, where ever Summer goes, I follow. Anyone could easily build an entire show around her. I’m a closet screenwriter and i find it hard not to write scripts with Summer in mind. She’s imprinted on my brain. Any time i attempt to write a great female lead or supporting character it always ends up looking like someone Summer has played or is playing right now…

If (gosh I’m getting tired of writing IF) they do get a third season and Cam isn’t in it then my train stops there. I love the rest of the cast a lot but i was a browncoat before T:SCC, my loyalty lies with Summer. I stop watching if she doesn’t come back.

Whatever happens Summer Glau certainly still has a career even if T:SCC gets tanked.

  13. WE LOVE YOU SUMMER!!!!!!!

  14. As has been stated 1,000 times before:

    Cameron walks… I walk.

  15. Resurrecting Cameron is not a far-fetched storyline. Cromartie resurrected himself after 8 years. It’s not implausible that if Cameron was somehow destroyed, John would be motivated to learn everything about how terminators are created in order to bring her back (as long as her chip is repairable).

I can see him fixing Cameron’s chip on his computer (similar to what he did with Vick’s chip), and digging up the buried coltan from the “Heavy Metal” episode. Cameron could be disembodied in his computer, coaching him along. John would learn so much more about terminators by building one instead of simply fixing one. This could be what makes Cameron different from all the other models, and would explain why she is able to override her own terminator programming.

It could potentially estrange him from both Sarah and Derek, who see Cameron as a replaceable machine. Both would be relieved to have Cameron gone.

He would get to see Cameron’s memories firsthand, including her future-based memories of Allison, Derek, and himself. Also, he could learn what she did during the 73 days before she located him and Sarah in New Mexico.

There is so much material to work with here.

  16. Very cool idea Logan. I like it.

  17. If she was “destroyed” (except for her chip) they ought to have John look through her things in her room (remembering her for what she meant to him) and comes across this…

Cameron’s grieving note from Season 1. It basically lays out her true feelings (things she didn’t know how to express vocally at the time) for John and what she was really about. AND it states that she was NOT the only Cameron copy sent back from the Future. That there is a replacement or backup (something useable for spare parts or a completely fresh Cameron body in case she wasn’t salvageable, at her drop point in 1997 (one who is still walking around out there or one in storage).

John just has to fix her chip (by way of Cameron’s essense inside the chip guiding him along) and go traveling to find her body and re-insert the chip.

The only problem: THIS new Cameron has awakened before John can reach her and doesn’t want her identity (chip) switched out because she’s unique (though she looks just like the other Cameron). She has a mind of her own and reacts differently from the first Cameron (she’s more refined and less blunt… she’s basically an improvement). Talk about a dilemma! Should John accept this new Cameron with her own unique and funny, quirky, and loveable personality or forcibly disable her and install HIS Cameron’s chip into this new body, though she was clitchy? What is the ethical thing to do?

Basically, it’s a reboot of John and Cameron’s relationship, and Summer can act differently, though still endearingly odd.

There’s now the potential for TWO Cameron “souls.” One’s stuck on a chip (the one John originally got to know with her own life experiences), the other is very much “alive” and curious and full of childlike innocence and wonder, and not as dangerous. John’s even more drawn to her.

That would make John sweat a little bit. Will he bring the old Cam back under duress or will he pocket Cam’s chip and allow this new Cameron to live on?

Well, I guess that’s what fan fictions are for… oh, well.

  18. I’m so excited, I can barely contain it. I cannot wait for the 13th!! I’m so curious as to everything they are going to do.

  19. I enjoyed reading the summer interview on sci-fi more than the i09 one.
I dont understand why so many are assuming cameron will die, its possible but unlikely. she said she is excited, and you dont get excited about your character being killed off, she also said she is hoping for a S-3, which means she will still be on the show. sad and shocked are just something to make us wonder. shocked could mean something “jameron”? and sad , maybe the actor killed off is someone she likes so she is sad? it could mean alot of things.

Dan your idea for the “backup” cameron isnt bad , even if she didnt die, it would be interesting if another “different” cameron showed up, then we have 2 camerons !
I think they just want us all to watch the show so they are saying all these cryptic things.
josh is still hoping for a S-3 and it would be stupid to kill cameron and expect fox to renew the show hoping a ressurection story would work.

I think fox should keep this show around as it will add viewers each time a new terminator movie comes out and there is already supposed to be a t-5 and t-6.
the only bad thing is t-4 wont come out till back 9 is finished?
so no way we could see if it helps us with new viewers unless we get a s-3

  20. Nice to hear some comments from Summer and Josh. Seems were in for a wild ride in the back nine. Can’t wait! Am a bit scared for the ending though, it being sad… We better get a season 3 then!

  21. From the interview she says shes sad as they are nearing the finale and she enjoys working on the show. The io9 article just selectively quoted that part to cause a stir. But she does make a point of saying the viewers will be shocked so something bad must happen. I just really hope they don’t do anything to Cam, she had her turn at the end of season 1.

It was very nice to hear from Summer though. I would still like to see a full transcript from the call, i think both articles have only used certain parts.

  22. Can we please read more carefully? Summer says she’s sad because it’s the end of the season and she’ll miss it but she eager to get back to work on season 3. Where is there anything about Cameron dying? It’s implying the exact opposite.

  23. “Friedman says he’d like to be able to revisit the “Alison from Palmdale” character at some point — the future human whose appearance, and apparently memories, Cameron borrowed from.”

I say: more Toni Graphia writings (And Josh of course). He wrotes my favorites episodes so far with Josh ones.

And people I don’t think we will get another Cameron’ death and ressurection, they already did it at then end of season 1. Both Mr Dekker and Ms Glau said they’ve been shocked by the finale scripts. This must be something huge. That’s a good teasing anyway.

  24. Err, sorry, Toni seems a female first name in english. So I mean “she wrotes my favorites episodes so far with Josh ones.”

  25. Scifiwire.com posted the Josh Friedman portion of the conference call:

  26. I hope that Cameron doesn’t die or anything. Summer is a great actress though. I love how she says that Cameron has feelings since she does in a way. Love it all can’t wait for the new season.

  27. i really really liked Logans idea for a story

  28. What a wonderful article. Summer does a wonderful job.
Cameron is the reason I am watching the show. Girl power!!!

And I hope T:SCC gets a S3. I need my Cameron and Jameron fix.
