from the fort.

It’s Thursday, December 11th. Our holiday break is still some days away and we intend on making the most of our time. So what’s going on in the different facets of Sarah Connor-land?

You’ll catch the fall finale, Earthlings Welcome Here, this coming Monday night. It’s our last show before the big move to Fridays in February, so jump online afterwards and discuss. Meanwhile, the writers are spending long, mind-bending days in their room nailing out the specifics of the end of the season. As for production, they’re plowing through late nights and complex scenes for episode seventeen, as directed by Jeff Woolnough (who did an excellent job directing our fourteenth episode, the first one back in February). Yesterday’s shoot featured a real helicopter on set. Today? Rehearsal for one important climactic scene that will take the entire day to shoot tomorrow.

Fun, fun, fun…

  1. Are you writing the season ending to both the possibility of no season three but leaving it open?

  2. Wow, helicopters, cyborgs and finales, oh my! Thanks to the entire cast and crew for working so hard before a well deserved holiday break and for keeping us updated here in SCC fandom land! :)

  3. Yeah, as willwood mentioned, I hope you guys are writing a solid alternate ending, as this could very well be the end of the series, and its gotta be good.

of course I hope the show last much longer, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. especially with the move to Fridays usually being the kiss of death.

If it has to end here, you guys should still be proud of the show for being so consistent in quality.

  4. Agreed, the show is consistently great. Love having the time to consider all the ramifications of the situation they are living with. Sure hope it makes it to season three.

Easily best show on television. Any chance other network would pick it up?

  5. I really don’t want to think about the show being canceled. I really don’t. But WillWood and Kyle make a good point, and it would be nice to know that we’re not going to be left without any answers to the very awesome plots that have been written for the show.

It has been a great ride so far, and I sincerely hope that it will be for a long time still. Everyone involved in this project has every reason to feel proud of his/her work. The show is amazing. Thank you all so much for giving us something intelligent to watch on TV.

  6. I would love to be a fly on the wall during those writers discussions :)
I feel so grateful that you guys and so many people on the TSCC crew are pouring their guts into this show so that we can enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Am I the only one that thinks that the show will do well on Fridays? Here’s to Season 3! :)

  7. OH…MY…GOD…post a preview or two already!!! I’m dyin’ over here :)

  8. Thats awesome a helicopter!

  9. IF it ends just write a novel or four!!!

  10. It’s kind of cool you can be working on a show like Terminator and STILL get excited about a real helicopter…sounds like it’s a fun set.

I agree with a couple of the other posters. Hopefully this show has a nice long life — but some sort of “alternate ending” would be cool, if even for the DVD — in case there is not a year 3.

But, if you think about it — with T:Salvation being one of the “big” summer movies of 2009. A good corporate decision would be to let some of that hype and promotion carry over to the TV Franchise. It certainly can’t hurt.

Thanks for the update — this is what blogs should be…real info for real fans!

  11. I sincerely hope T:SCC makes it to a third season…they can’t leave us hanging like that!! It’ll be Firefly all over again (ok maybe not that bad)

I have incredibly high hopes for the last ep until feb but i must echo Kate…GIVE US SOME MORE PREVIEWS FOR MONDAY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Like MJ said I’m not sure I could handle another Firefly situation. (Pull the knife from my heart already FOX) That said I really REALLY am hopeing that SCC gets a season 3. There’s too much story to be told and the cast too talented to have the big C word hang over there and our heads.

Keep up the good work and give them FOX execs heck.

  13. Love the show, are there going to be any terminator movie tie in? The movie looks like it might not suck. Just thinking it might a way to get some awesome cross promotion and maybe save some money using the movie’s sets.

  14. I cant bear the thought of the show being canceled… I don’t really know what I would do…
Ive been a terminator fan for most my life, (I’m only 18…) and I haven’t missed a single episode of T:SCC
I refuse to go anywhere or do anything monday nights, and I plan to do the same on friday’s when February comes around.
I will be on here after monday’s episode for sure =]
keep up the amazing work everyone

  15. ThatGuyJustStoleMyPants

If we keep up the pressure and the raitings, we will get a season 3! :)

  16. OH…MY…GOD…post a preview or two already!!! I’m dyin’ over here said Kate. Ditto

  17. Maybe Fox will keep the show alive if they can sell TSCC episodes to other channels. To my big surprise, TSCC season one will be aired in French (Quebec province, Canada) starting January 2009: http://www.tqs.ca/tout-sur-tqs/communiques/2008/669.php (sorry, news available only in French).

If I will try to record the tv ad and post it here… it is too funny: Cameron speaking French. ;)

  18. Helicopter? Can this be for the origin story of Weavers doppelgänger? hmm…

Before season 2 ends, you guys have to make sure you reveal Derek and Camerons mysterious future past. It would be a great B-story in an upcoming episode.

  19. Excellent job everyone at T:SCC. I know my family is sure going to miss you guys, but Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!! The only question I have is, am I reading it right that the show won’t be back on the air until February 13th? Why such a long break? I am just curious…thanks…

  20. Brenda - many productions use the holiday to get caught up on their scripts, etc. Varies on each production. But there is also the Network factor. Their sweeps change, air schedules, blah blah. Networks are always fun right guys? ;)

Finally back on the lot and you go hog Lot A ;) Last time I recall a production doing an explosion stunt there your crew freaked out thinking something else happend, haha. One of my best memories at WB so far. You guys have a great show though. With a production schedule myself I have zero time to watch tv but I make an effort to catch your show. You have a great crew, some good peeps. I hope you stick around longer :) I’m rooting for ya all :) Hopefully you get a longer break for the holidays then I do :)

  21. I can’t wait! I really hope to see a third season of this show, I’m sure the cast and crew could pull it off brilliantly given the chance.

  22. While I may come across as critical (ha ha), I do want a third season, and a fourth, and a…

I still think that the show SOMETIMES seems a little flat for something called “Terminator.”

There is just something MORE expected when you hold it up to James Cameron’s T1 and T2.

MORE energy, MORE drama, MORE humor, MORE intercharacter biplay, MORE spunk, MORE tension and suspense, MORE intensity with the music with a healthier dose of cool songs (not all the time, but more often than three times), and MORE of a blend of a playful sense of fun and excitement intermingled with the darker aspects of the story.

Look at T1 as an example. When Sarah and Kyle end up at the police station and meet up with the characters played by Paul Winfield (Lt. Traxler), Lance Henriksen (Det. Hal Vukovich), and Earl Boen (Dr. Silberman) there were some funny moments.

Like when Kyle is ranting and screaming about how the Terminator will kill her, Dr. Silberman watches raptly without thinking about Sarah’s mental well being at all and finally stops the tape and just blandly says “sorry.” Or when Traxler and Vukovich are talking amongst themselves. Or when Dr. Silberman yawns like he’s completely bored, and is discussing how a nutjob like Kyle could make him rich and famous.

In T2 you have the Pescadero scene where Sarah goes completely ballistic on camera and Dr. Silberman turns to the camera and states: “Model citizen.”

Or many of Arnold and John’s interaction in T2 was quite amusing and downright touching.

Even though you seemingly don’t have the budget of even some sitcoms like “My Name is Earl” does not mean you can’t shoot and light and edit like an epic movie: Tracking shots, dolly shots, sweeping Chapman crane shots, etc. etc.

I was just watching, for the first time ever, Simon Pegg’s early British sitcom TV show from 1999 called “Spaced.” They had almost NO budget and I was amazed at how creative the show was. They made it seem like they had a much bigger budget than they did just by using bigger movie shooting and editing and lighting techniques.

Plus, I must say, their script writing was very witty and sharp-edged.

Don’t be afraid to go back to the drawing board and REALLY supercharge TSCC. It does not mean dumb it down, but it does mean putting more elements of the original movies into the show so that casual viewers are like: “DAMN! Now *this* is the Terminator I remember from the 80’s and 90’s!!”

This will help counterbalance the feeling of dread that permiates so far.

We need something exciting and fun sometimes due to all the bad stuff going down in politics and the economy. We don’t need to be totally bummed out when we turn on TSCC as well.

And also, PLEASE don’t cram so many various story lines into your 41 minutes. You then have very little time to flesh out the main arc.

You do good work, but that does not mean it can’t be BETTER, BOLDER, BIGGER, and more FUN, and more EPIC.

Good luck! We’re all counting on you!

  23. I seriously hope the show isn’t cancelled…
If it is, I’m giving up TV. And building Skynet to make the people that cancelled it pay.

  24. This is the only show I watch besides Heroes and Desperate Housewives!!! Love it!!!
